How long did you have to wait in pre-op?

I had to wait for four and a half hours from the time I arrived. I got there at 9 am, with a scheduled op time at 12 noon. I was prepared for three hours, but didn't get wheeled out of the waiting area into pre-op where they hook you all up until 1:40 pm.
:bedjump:

They said they were running behind, and I guess I was one of the last scheduled surgeries of the day.
Why I minded was because I was naked except for a hospital gown, and they had already put those compressors on my legs, which were increasingly uncomfortable. And this room I was in was very small, but they fit in two huge hospital gurneys. These are the type of gurneys that you're in throughout it all. We had a curtain between us, but my neighbors had visitors. I was there for so long, I had two different roommates. One older lady and another woman who said she was in for a D&C. Even with two roommates, I still had time enough to gain control of the remote for the tv up on the wall. Thankfully, they had cable, and I watched courttv for most of the time I was there.

How long did you have to wait in pre-op?

My hospital just opened a new women's surgical ward for gyno surgeries and on my day of surgery I was the one and only patient. They said it was a first. Everyone was waiting on me and hanging out in my preop room since I was the only patient. My doc was there early and said since I'm here and you are here how bout we do this now. I was rolled back 30 minutes early.

I was the only one in recovery so they let DH come sit with me back there while we waited for a room to open. I had several people waiting on me and I truly felt like a princess.

This was my third surgery ever and it was definitely my best castle experience. So far this has been my easiest surgery and recovery too. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

I got there at 5:45 (I was 15 minutes late) with a scheduled start time of 7:00. I was only in pre-op until 6:40.

How long did you have to wait in pre-op?

For my TAH, I was supposed to be there at 11:00, but I was early.... (DH is a little obsessive ). I was in my "suite" for maybe 45 minutes total, but then I waited in the pre-op holding area (like where you were) for about 2 hours. Nothing to do -- no TV or anything.

For my hematoma surgery in 2005, I was to report at 7:00 a.m., which I thought was a great thing because I figured I'd be in and out right away. Wrong! I didn't even get to the holding area until almost 1:00 p.m. (waited the rest of the time in my gown in a room) and they didn't start my surgery until 3:15 p.m. That's a long time to wait with no water or food (and no happy drugs, either).

Unfortunately, surgery schedules can change at a moment's notice, and we patients sometimes end up suffering for it. Sorry you had a bad experience like I did.

How long did you have to wait in pre-op?

I had to be there at 8:00 and waited about 20 minutes in the waiting room and then from there it was about 1 hour. As soon as the anethesiologist gave me the good stuff, I was out. I vaguely remember waking up enough to put on my clothes and being moved to a recovery room where my mom, dh and step-father came and sat with me.

How long did you have to wait in pre-op?

I arrived at 7AM and was in the pre-op room around 7:15. They wheeled me out of there at 9AM. The Anesthesiologist wheeled me out and I only remember getting to the elevator. Next think I knew, I woke up in recovery and it was 11:30 or so.

How long did you have to wait in pre-op?

I was told by the doc to be there at 12:00 for my 2:00pm surgery. I got there at 11:30, traffic was really good that day. Anyway the 12:00 patient wasn't there and they gave me her slot! I was in the waiting area for about 20 minutes. The anesthesiologist came in and asked if I wanted an epidural or general. I chose the epi, much faster recovery. Then we were off to surgery. It was not even 2:00 by then. I remember being told to lie on my right side....then I was being awoken in recovery. An altogether nice experience, (if I wasn't there for major surgery!).

How long did you have to wait in pre-op?

I was at the hospital for 5:00 a.m. for a 7:00 a.m. surgery. After a short orientation program with several other patients, we were each led to our pre-op rooms. They must have been running on time because we didn't have to wait too long before the anesthesiologist came in and gave me some happy drugs. The next thing I remember is waking up in recovery.

the pre-op area is probably the worst for me. the waiting can cause extreme stress. i ask my doc to give me a xanax the morning of my surgery so that i could relax until i they were ready for me. so many things are happening in the operating room that some surgeries must be pushed back. its hard to wait but it a necessary evil.
