Is this realistic?

Hello ladies,
I was going to go to the castle today, but I came down with bronchitis and had to reschedule surgery for June 6th. My question is, I was planning a road trip vacation on July 15th....that is 5 1/2 weeks from my new surgery date. Is it realistic to expect to feel well enough for a long road trip? I will not be driving at all, I will just be in the car for 8 hours for 2-3 days. What is your opinion on this? Do you think I will be able to manage this? Thank you ladies for your time!
Best Wishes,
Deena

Deena....

First, get well soon I would think you would be fine on the trip as long as your recovery has gone smooth & have the DR's permission. And I would suggest taking many short breaks during all that riding in the car. I hope the car has reclining seats to give you a change in position once in a while.

Good luck with your surgery & recovery!

Is this realistic?

I had a TAH/BSO on 1/5/01 and in my 6th week of recovery flew from Florida to Texas and did volunteer work at a bass tournament.......no lifting but a lot of walking..........I was fine. I had a pretty easy recovery with no problems. Can you leave your options open, so that if you don't feel up to it you don't have to go? You didn't say which type of surgery you are having, that will affect how you feel at 5 1/2 weeks. If all goes well I think you'll probably be ok -- I hope the car has comfortable seats and be sure to take a couple of pillows so you can rest comfortably!

Deena,

check with your doctor and if he/she gives you the okay for the trip, then by all means go and try to have a wonderful time. spending 8 hrs in a car can be difficult and uncomfortable. reclining seats are a must. and take pillows too. you will probably need some pain meds too(just in case). taking breaks from the car every couple of hours would be a good idea. you might get stiff and achy if you sit for too long. .....remember these are all just my personal suggestions.
get the okay from your doc before you make the trip. it will probably depend on how well your recovery is going.

i had a myomectomy in august and my doc told me nothing over and hours ride in a car for 6 wks. after my hyst. a LAVH he gave me the okay to make a two hr ride at 2 1/2 wks, but said to take pillows and pain meds because i would probably in a little pain. and the pillows would make the ride more comfortable. he also said that if possible i should lie down at the end of my trip.....would be very tired.

i hope i didn't discourage you. since we all heal differently and our docs think differently, your best bet is to talk this over with your doc.
