I'm about to have a hyster. in 5 wks. A friend told me I should have them take the ovaries too, but the doctor was planning on leaving them. I have struggled with mirgraines for over 14 yrs and they often are effected by the change in hormones. Has anyone who suffered with migraines and have both/one ovaries removed noticed a difference in their migraines. I can't do HRT they gave me low dose estrogen to regularate my bleeding , but it made it worse and added to the headaches. I'm wondering if it would be helpful in stopping the headaches by removing them.
ALSO my friend said she knows of 2 friends whose ovaries were left after a hyster., but ended up with ovarian cancer later in life and died. Does anyone have any info in regards to whether there is more of a chance-I don't have a family history of ovarian cancer.
One last question- if I have both/one ovary out does that mean that all my Libido and and my O's will be gone too? I'm only 37 and been married 16ys.
I do not know if having your ovaries removed will help with the migraines. I wish I would have discussed this with my doctor prior to surgery. My doctor was only going to remove my ovaries if necessary. he said if they looked healthy he would leave them intact due to my age.
Here is my story.
I suffer from migraines for many years which seem to be in sync with ovulation and menustration. Of course, stress also brings on my migraines.
In the first six months after having surgery (left ovaries) my migraines went from at least twice a month to one every three months. Not bad, I figured I could deal with that. I am now eight months post op and having migraines a lot more often than right after surgery.
The migraines I have been having recently are still around the times of ovulation. They are not as bad as before, but still need meds and a nap to get rid of them.
Again, I do not know if I had had my ovaries removed if this would have helped with the migraines. I do wish I would have discussed this sympton with my doctor.
I also suffer from migraines. I have had one since I had my tah, I still have my ovaries. I wanted to keep them so I would not go into menapause. I dont think there is a guarentee but you may want to ask your dr>? Im sure the sisters also have good advice
