Fair enough....the one thing you wish NO ONE had told you.......
I had of course my nightmare terror of coming home with the catheter for a week if I couldn't pee to drive me nuts! Just awful to think of even now. That was compounded by reading on here about vaginal packing! You're going to do what????? Uh no you're not!!!! lol
So what did you know about going into this that scared you/concerned you/freaked you out so bad that you wished no one had told you about it?

Another good thread...hummm, the one thing I wish no one had told me...I guess it would be the the higher risk for bowel and bladder complications I heard you can have with a LAVH. I was very fortunate though post surgery not to have had any of those two problems.
Have a GREAT night and sweet dreams to all.
Hugs, love and prayers!

For me it was the possiblity of having blood clots happen weeks after surgery.. learned about that here in the Post-op board. Had no idea it could happen weeks later........
Talked to Dr. about it and she said I would be given an injection in my abd. while in the hopital......... That threw me for a loop, since I am terrified of needles..........

I wish no one had told me about the effects of not doing HRT. I don't won't my skin to get more wrinkly, less elastic. I don't want to be moody (more than I already was). I don't want a dry vagina. I want to think that the benefits of HRT outweight the risks, but for me I'm not sure yet. I'm still contemplating going on them. The Vivelle patches are in my bathroom waiting on me. I'm going to try to give it a month and see if things settle down. But, I saw my mother age considerably when she had to go off HRT five years ago. She developed a blood clot that moved from her leg through her heart and on into her lungs!!! She had been on HRT for 10 years and her doctor changed her from one kind to another........that's when it happened. She went off them cold turykey, and I saw her age horribly after that. I realize she's 20 years old than me and aging is ultimately going to happen, but she looks SO different than she did when she went off them.

My sister had warned me that it was common to have to come home with a catheter. I was beginning to get very worried in the hospital when the catheter was still in after three days. When they finally took it out and did a void and scan test, I peed with all my little might to empty as much as I could out of my bladder. I was so scared of having to go home with the catheter in place. Turns out I passed the test and didn't have to, but I was scared nonetheless.

My biggest advice to everyone I've ever talked to faced with a medical problem/procedure is not to listen to others cuz it might not even happen to you/everyones different..everyone has dif bodies/pain tolerance/life experiences that lead them to see/experience things differently......but did i take my OWN advice this time??? Nooo I did not! and I scared myself silly reading one pre-op sentence. Once they found out, every woman out there wanted to tell me their story..& not one thing they said happened to me.
Although, let me say if you are the type that can handle it, its super to have that info out there...but for a scaredy cat like me {shreak}!!

I wish someone told me I would have shots in my legs twice per day to avoid blood clots. Let me just tell you... They hurt like hell and they leave you with all kinds of bruises.... Ouch

Good thread, I had a friend tell me she loved the surgeon that did her hyst 2 years back which happened to be my surgeon as well... I thought "That's a relief!" then in the next breath she said having a hyst was the positively worst experience in her life...Aw man, why did she have to say that to me 2 days before my date????!!!! The other thing was when people compared my hyst to their C-sections. Oh and the dr. telling me prior to surgery that he might have to do a vertical incision...first thing I did in recovery was check the direction of my incision. Oh and another thing that bugged me when I saw it in the post op while I was still pre op was how bad it hurt to poop. I really stocked up on the Colace. LOL Fortunately it wasn't bad.

I agree about wishing no one had told me is was similar to a c-section... I think that left me woefully unprepared for the recovery ahead-- my expectations were initially a little too optimistic and chipper because once you realize it is NOTHING at all like a c-section, you think that maybe there is something seriously medically wrong with you post-op... when really, your recovery is NORMAL. difficult, but NORMAL... i am the kind of person who prefers to know worst case scenario so that all actual outcomes are almost always much, much better... I know, most people don't operate this way, it's just my "need to know", "information is power" way of thinking...
