Newbie and Nervous
I scheduled my LAVH today for November the 28th. I'm just a little nervous and this is how I got here.
Started dealing with severe pain when I was 18 (11 years ago) Ultrasound revealed cysts on my ovaries so I was put on birth control. Four years and 45 pounds later nothing but the pain was gone. I still was bleeding at least 10 days and I'm pretty sure I was paying the staff at Kotex. I think some were even able to take early retirement.
Then came the abnormal pap. One cryo and one leep later paps were back to normal. Then I got pregnant while the getting was good. Everything went fine until the last week. I was so swollen I couldn't get my shoes on. They induced me which didn't work. Never got past 1 centimeter. To the C-section where I was informed they couldn't give my any more epidurals and I would have to be put under. Stomach muscles had to be cut upwards because what was supposed to be maybe an eight pound baby came out as a 9lb 6 oz, 23 inch long little girl. Don't remember anything until the next day. Four day's later I was home vowing never to do that again. Took Depo shot; bled for 45 days straight (Somebody else at Kotex retired) One year later after having periods every 14 days I had a tubal done and a D&C. No relief. 6 months later have another D&C plus ablation (Novasure). Bleeding is 110% better but severe pain was back in full force. Which brings me to today.
Doc says I have overactive ovaries. I am a healty ovulator. Which for me equals pain and lots of it. Both of my grandmothers had a hyster. before they were 30 which makes me cringe when I think of my daughter and what she will go through.
I welcome this surgery with open arms for it has been a long road getting to this point. I hope I haven't rambled too much. I feel like I have no one to talk to. I feel like I have failed somewhere. I feel like I'm a wimp; like I should be able to tolerate the pain.
I wish everyone luck on their surgeries and hope to make many new friends on this site.
Thanks for bearing with me.

GT, welcome!
You're in the right place for support. I had a TVH with rectocele repair on 9/15, almost 5 weeks ago. I never had surgery before and I can tell you I worried WAY too much. Surgery really was OK. I was uncomfortable and sore. I took a couple of vicodin (maybe 3) and decided that ibuprofen was enough.
We're here for you.

Thanks Not-2-Brave! It's good to find a place where everyone understands what you're going through.
I am a worrier (or so my husband says). Past surgeries have been fine I just hate being put under. Scares the you know what out of me.
Pain after surgery cannot compare with this pain I'm having now. The contractions I had before the epidural were aches compared to these.
Just be glad when it's over.

Newbie and Nervous
I'm postop week four and had my uterus and cervix removed. Ovaries were left in place. I was discharged two days after surgery. I was very nervous prior to the procedure because I never had major surgery before. I tried not to think about it because I would get more nervous. My husband says that I was scared. Whatever. Needless to say, I walked around the day after surgery to get rid of the gas. That was more painful than incisional pain. I couldn't feel the incisional pain due to the wonderful pain meds. I walked out of the hospital and took it easy the first week. I stopped taking the pain meds six days after surgery. I started walking around the block and increased my distance every other day. I feel good, started working out a little at the gym. I go back for my postop visit next week and back to work the following week. What helped me tremendously was working out prior to surgery. I got stronger and that made a huge difference in my recovery. People were shocked that I wasn't laying up in bed! My advise to you is to listen to your body. You will know when you need to chill out! Best wishes to you and I hope that things go well. After it was all over, I can honestly say it wasn't that bad.
