Cravings

2 weeks ago I craved banana nut bundt cake so I baked one. Last weekend I craved crab ragoons so my boyfriend took me to a Chinese buffet. Tonight I'm craving a BK Whopper...I haven't had BK in ages. Whats up with this? Is this because I am condo-bound and have cabin fever? Is this something legit? Is this hormonal (I'm on Premarin)?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Cravings

Hey..Don't know if it is a hormonal thing or not, but for the first month after my surgery all I wanted to eat was Honey Nut Cherrios! I would bet money that I went thorugh at least 50 of the biggest boxes they made. I ate it dry, with milk, on ice cream...ha. Then in the middle of the night I would get cravings for different things...mainly brussel sprouts and bananas! So, either we are "special" or there are others out there, too! ha

For the first couple of weeks after surgery I craved chicken noodle soup and now lately it has been orville redenbocker popcorn. I have one working ovary so I don't know if it is hormonal or not. Oh yeah there was a couple of times I thought I was craving glazed donuts but when DH got home with them I didn't want them anymore. Poor DH.

I can't live without graham crackers. I was nauseous in castle with pain meds and they really helped. Now I am going through the Costco size boxes! Never ate them before!

I craved bbq potato chips from the first week post op (I am 8 weeks post op today). I might have bbq potato chips once a year at the most, so I as so suprised with this craving. This is the first week I have not wanted and I mean really, really wanted LAYS (it had to be Lays) bbq potato chips and yes I gave into the dark side and eat many many .99 bags of chips. So maybe my body has healed what ever that need the bbq chips.

Immediately post surg it was mac 'n cheese and I drove the sisters nuts talking about DH getting it from this great little diner in town. When I went to my 2 week check in we stopped at this great italian bakery to get a treat for the nurse who was so great to me at the office and I got some biscotti.....bad bad thing to do! I then had to get my girlfriend's recipe for almond biscotti and in the last 2 weeks have eaten so much biscotti that I look like one! I am actually sitting here eating the last piece and I'm sad but I will not make anymore for a while! lol

BK....oh bad things! Have you seen the Subway commercial where he has all the 6gm of fat or less subs out next to one BK stacker and there are more grams of fat in the one BK sandwich than if you combined the fat in all 8 of the 6gm subs! Ay yi yi!!!!!! Once in a while splurge but that just flipped me out!

Kayjay ~ Its so interesting that you mentioned Subway! A cousin came to the hospital to visit me the night of surgery and I BEGGED him to smuggle me in a 6 inch veggie Subway (with mayo and mustard, no olives). I love Subway so I understood that craving. He said he would bring me a sub the following day IF the Dr said I could have solid food. Well, when the Dr came in it was the first question I asked him. He said I could start solid food that day so I called my Subway dealer at 9am to see if he could make a drop around lunch time. Then breakfast came. The eggs were only slightly recognizable and the bacon had an interesting stench to it. My lunch was a slice of either turkey or chicken (couldn't get past the salt taste to tell the difference) with something that looked like mashed potatoes so I didn't eat that either. I just can't understand how hospitals can serve that type of "food". For someone who loves to cook and likes baking, this was just unreal to me. Then my cousin walked in with the bag! I inhaled it...I spotted an olive but I kept on going.

Ladyboiler, I think you got it. Hospital food is so darn YUCKY that we are now craving ANYTHING real!!! Oh my, I am a vegetarian and they hadn't the first CLUE about what to feed me!!! I asked for mac and cheese, they brought chicken gravy over mashed potatoes. Distinctively NOT vegetarian. I asked for has browns for breakfast and they had bacon bits (large size) in them. Also not exactly vegetarian. I finally gave up and asked for a salad. I got iceberg lettuce with exactly one slice of cucumber!!! Oh my! Now that I am home, I am loving every bean I can find!!! But gratefully I have very little appetite, so I am losing weight, which I really, really need to do! So I am okay with the small appetite! LOL!

For me it was hardboiled eggs, and frozen Tombstone Pizzas, which I never eat because of MSg and other preservatives, which I shouldn't eat.
