Total laprascopic hyst
I think a hyst is a good idea for most of us, but
it you have checked out all of your options and
decide to have it done , why not go with a total
lap hyst, they dont go through the vag or the
abdomin its alot less time to recover for those
that dont get paid time off. You may have to search
for a doc that can do it though. My doc said that
because of the size of my fibroids i would have to
go tah and i didnt like that idea, so i searched and
found one to do it the way i want. They use whats
called a morcelater its a tool that goes in through
the belly like a tube and pulls everything up through
it , after its all cut away from the walls , then
chops it up with little blades, sounds sick but its
alot better than being sliced all the way open.
good luck to you all whatever you and your doc decide
to do . {{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}} jenfur

Wow - this is my first post as a "Hostess" - and you are a HS after my own heart. I'm "potentially" scheduled for a total lap hyst (supracervical) in July. I had heard about this JUST THE NIGHT BEFORE my appointment with "2nd opin doc #3" on this board for the first time. I have heard from three sisters - all of whom were back to work/play/etc in 2 to 3 weeks, with only 1 (or 0) nights in hospital. It can be a bit difficult finding a doc in your area, but if I can find one in Spokane, WA, I'm not surprised you could find on in Michigan. Let your fingers do the walking...
Jen - I can't remember but I know we have responded to each other before. I am so excited that you are my first "official" hostess post - just realize, I'm a hostess "baby."
My doc put me on Lupron (I have not had side effects (yet) but many women do) to shrink the broids prior to surgery. I too am a rapidly growing fibroid factory.
Let's be sure to stay in touch with our results. When are you scheduled?
This type of hyst really seems like the op of the future - so far I've seen about 90% good news regarding the outcomes.
Hugs to to on your hyst, and for letting the other sisters know.

Total laprascopic hyst
I too would like to just have a TLH also, but mine will be a LAVH instead. My doctor wants to make sure that all is gone and that I don't have any endo lying around there somewhere. I will be bringing up the subject of a total Lap hyster to see what he says. I too am on Lupron for 2 months to shrink my multiple, multiple fibroids. My first shot was 5/15/00 and my second shot is 6/12/00. My pre-op apt is 6/26/00 and my surgery should be at the end of July. The only effects that I am feeling due to the shot is some fatigue and some brain fog. No serious side effects yet, kind of watching out for them. My nurse said that they may not hit until after the second shot. So beware!!! Good luck to the both of you.

I thought that your posts were really interesting...my story is similar in that I am scheduled 7-25. Originally lavh but now must have tah b/c of endo. My dr. has me on birth control, because I refused to try the Lupron..I guess I researched that too much. Anyway, Good Luck to all of you and keep on posting...p.s I heard 2nd month is alittle hairy on Lupron.whatmadeyou try it??

Total laprascopic hyst
ann,
You asked why I went ahead and tried Lupron. My past experience, of me and my body, is I tolerate (life, pain, medications) pretty well. When I heard the physical symptoms I thot "yea, well I've been having hot flashes, night sweats, day sweats, headaches w/menses - so what else is new?" So far, and the first week is supposed to be the worst, nothing out of the ordinary. In fact, I feel pretty good - probably cause I have no period and I have a decision made. I also wouldn't go on Lupron as a "cure" or for more than 2 months. I'll let you know how shot #2 goes.
I also figured I could put up with some annoying symptoms for a month in order to avoid a looonnnggg recovery process. I have a hard time finding my "off" button, and I was really bummed about recovering in the summer. Then again, I didn't want to be recovering during the school semesters when I teach. I'd toss a coin and not like either decision.
Part of it was going on faith, too, I guess. I'd investigated lots of options with lots of doctors. The doors just seemed to be opening easily with this doc - not ONE wrong answer. Even the second surgeon will be the one I hoped for. Office staff, nurses, hospital - all have been great. When I pray I usually ask for God's wisdom - no particular outcome. Sometimes it just seems all the right things are happening and I say okey dokey! Hope that makes sense.
D.T.
I certainly don't think Lupron is an easily chosen option.

re:lupron
Thanks for the post..I guess what turned me off to the Lupron was the knowledge that it was NOT a cure, and I would end up in this boat anyway. I am definately scared about the recovery over the summer, and we aregoing to Fla. 19 days after surgery. Three kids, and disneyworld..go figure.I am sure I will have quite a story. ANyway please keep posting re Lupron, and I wish you well...PKP

Total laprascopic hyst
Ann,
I too agree with Dixie Tracy about the recovery period by being on Lupron and the side effects. I also researched it to the point that I pretty much told the Doctor what the side effects were before I was shot. I figured if I endured it up to this point, I can take it. So, I will let you know how it goes after the second shot. I get my second shot 5 days before I get married in Vegas. Wonderful huh being in one of the hottest states in the middle of summer!!! I want those fibroids to be at their smallest size so that my surgery will go better and my recovery time should be fast. I had come to this decision talking it over with my fiance and we figured that this was the best option out of all of them. Good luck all.

Total Lap Hyst
I also had a total laproscopic Hyst with removal of ovaries and tubes on 5/17. Got to my room at 10:00 pm and was released at 11:00 am next day. I took pain medication on Wednesday and Thurs only one. After that I was fine. I feel great except for some numbness on my inner thigh. This is really the way to go if you can find a doctor in your area. Mine was great.

Total laprascopic hyst
Ann, you said you are having TAH b/c of endo. I just discovered that a lap hyst was even possible. But do you know if lap hyst is contraindicated for endo? I want to be sure that I have the best chance for getting all the endo. My nurse practitioner suggested TAH BSO for me, but I don't see the surgeon until 6/12. I have an appt with a lap hyst specialist on 8/3 at Stanford University. But I don't want to wait 2 months and find out that it's not the best way to go.

This is still a new to me procedure too, so I would suggest calling the doc's office and asking. You might also try the lap hyst websites I posted elsewhere - go to the top of the page and type in laporascopic hyst, total lap hyst, TLH. etc.
Not sure if they can "see" well enuf to get endo.
Dixie
