Nervous about surgery/ 10/31/06
Hello sisters,
This is such a great site. I have been lurking for a while, and used your great info on my pre-op questions, and now I am preparing for the castle with all your fine suggestions. I am really nervous. I've never had surgery before, and now my gyn/onc says I need to have it done now. So the worry of surgery weighs heavy, but then the cancer suspicion lingers. I have a lot of pre meno symptoms, so hopefully I am doing the right thing by removing both ovaries. I have large cyst on both ovaries, and fibroids in my uterus. Of course I wouldn't be having surgery just because of how I feel (you know us women we just seem to get used to feeling bad and we just grin and bare it, I'm sure that is what I would still be doing!) the cyst were found to be septated with many divisons and my CA125 is slightly elevated so the doc says we have to go and get it all and do pathology. I am holding up well and know that no matter the outcome of the surgery that I will do everything needed to get myself well. My hat is off to all you great women, you are all informative, sincere, and understanding. Anyone else with complex cysts? What was your outcome? To all you future scheduled princesses, my thoughts are with you. Let's just take each day as it comes and pretty soon we will be on the other side.

Hi RitzKay!
I too will be having my TAH with possible Ovary removal on Halloween!! I can't comment specifically on your situation because I'm not really sure what's wrong with me. Doc says he won't know til he gets in there. I have a uterus the size of a 16 week pregnancy and a couple of fibroids. Doc suspects Adenomyosis. I have been amazingly calm this week and cleaning like crazy - staying busy really helps. Looking forward to just having this over with. It sounds like you have a wonderfully positive attitude and I believe that will help tremendously with recovery. I wish you the best of luck with your surgery and recovery - I'll be thinking about you. See you on the "other side".

Hello! I'm another having a TAH on Halloween!! I'm no longer "worried" about my costume! I have fibroids, a cyst on 1 ovary and am severely anemic from hemorragia. Absolutely petrified as well, but what this has been doing to me and my life for the past year (have tried most options except Lupron and nothing worked, if anything D&C made worse!)I know this is the right way to go. But the waiting!!!
trying to keep busy and clean my house! Am staying with my sister first week, my bathroom is upstairs, so sort of stressed about that too! But I'm lucky as well to have her!
The love and support here is amazing, found site by accident 4 days ago! My thoughts are with you and all our new friends!
Will watch for your future posts to "compare" notes!!
Take Care! Terra

Hi...I am also having a TAH on Halloween, I just found out today. I knew it would be soon, I didn't know how soon - my dr. did an exploratory lap two weeks ago, and I have all kinds of endometriosis, adhesions, ovarian involvement...and a possible infection, he believes (I'm running a fever but my white cell count is in normal limits). He doesn't want to wait due to the infection issue.
I'm scared...of course...but I know I have no choice, and it is a family issue (mom and grandmom had them as well).
I just hope I will not drive myself crazy with worry between now and Tuesday. So I understand completely how you feel. Let us all hope the time goes quickly!

Hi Ritzkay,
My situation is a bit like yours. I have a large complex cyst on the left - and another complex on the right (though I don't know how large it is). I also have a couple of 'structures' that look like fluid-filled tubes (but this was thought last year and a HSG test showed they were not blocked tubes) - also septated... as well as a few other 'fluid' filled areas.
My gyn wants to do a hyst, but I want to ensure a complete hyst is necessary prior to surgery. I'd like to leave the right ovary if possible, but if not - so be it.
I had a MRI done on Tuesday to get a better idea of what all is going on in there. I haven't heard back from the doc yet and I wish she would call!! Like you, I have that little constant fear of cancer lurking in my thoughts. I want to get these 'structures', complex cysts, and god knows what else is in there - OUT ASAP! I just want to know more about what I'm getting into before I go in for surgery.
My gyn told me that once we did the MRI, we would schedule surgery for sometime in November.
So I have no advice for you, but I am sharing your nervousness! One thing that makes me feel a tad better is that I had a very large complex cyst/endometrioma on the left ovary 2 years ago - and had a laparoscopy and then a laparotomy (b/c the surgeon found too many issues to fix with the laparoscopy) to remove it. They removed 65% of the left ovary at that time. It was not cancerous, so I hope the same is found this time around.
I also hope that the fluid areas are just caused by scarring and adhesions from endo and the previous surgery (as my gyn is also assuming).
Good luck to you with your upcoming surgery! Let us know how it goes!
