Drug Scare

STAH 18 April 01
Feeling cross about the treatment in the UK, because I was very anemic the Dr put me in for several tests - one was a check for ulcers, another to see a gynae, an endoscopy was set up (waited 5 months) and I had it last week, but in the meantime I saw the gynae and had the hysterectomy. I've been taking NSAID drugs - voltarol for pain for 2 and a half weeks but luckily decided to stop last weekend. Glad I did because it turns out I have two peptic ulcers - they said they can be caused by the NSAID drugs and that if I had the ulcers already I should never have been put on the drugs. They said if I'd carried on with them the ulcers would have perforated. Why couldn't the Dr have read my notes and seen the risk!!!!! Sorry just wanted to moan.

We get no help in this country - the hospital hadn't even bothered to arrange my 6 week check up, we only get one chance here, I have one now, but to tell the truth I have had far more help on this site and the health sections of the net than any 'trained' Dr.

So thank you for all your help I would have been totally lost without you.

Is it just trial and error to see how much you can manage as the weeks go on? 5 weeks now and actually felt normal yesterday morning so did loads - cleaning etc, went for a walk pm and on the way back I felt so ill, I could actually see and feel my belly swelling up. Just wish there was a red flag waving saying stop! BEFORE you go too far with activities!! LOL

Dear Pam, I am so glad someone found the problem you could have been one very sick lady. At five weeks you are starting to feel much better but this is when you really listen do your body and think out your activities. If you do laundry then don't clean that day. To much at once can haunt you at the end of the day. Try to do your activitiy and then rest a complete hour afterwards. As the days go on you will build up your strength and stamina. Before you know it everything will feel back to normal. Diane

Thanks Diane - I'll try that doing one big thing then resting, just feel so guilty about it I suppose. Take care.

Drug Scare

Hello again,
In my case and in my non-medical opinion Voltarol are horrid with or without ulcers, they affected my vision, my sleep pattern and gave me a spaced out feeling, after coming home I changed to humble paracetamol....check packet for spelling !

I am 8 and a half weeks now and guilt over reduced activity has really set in BUT for the first time in 2 weeks my stomach has swollen mid-afternoon and the pulling sensation has returned. If I worked (as in paid employment!) and had started back by now I would definitely be doing half days and early nights. My husband is knocking down the garage at present and I am just a supervisor !!!!

Best wishes and don't feel bad,
Nickie J
