Black cohosh

Anyone taking black cohosh (CVS brand of Remifemin is what I am taking)? I also use Premarin cream 2-3 times per week and I stopped taking Enjuvia 1.25mg. I've had some headaches and I really don't feel very good and I was wondering if I am just getting used to black cohosh. I have gained about 10 pounds in the last two or three months. I have started watching my salt and sweets and have lost about 7 pounds really quickly. Anybody else do this? My dr also gave me a Rx for Premarin 1.25mg tablets to use along with the cream (which I haven't filled yet, wanted to try black cohosh first) and she said I was taking a high dose of estrogen anyway. My question is, should I go ahead and try the Premarin and stop taking the black cohosh or give it more time? Started it Oct 25th so it's not been very long. Plus I have a UTI and she gave me Macrobid for it and I really don't think it's helping much and I've been taking it since Monday night. Thanks for any help ladies. I appreciate it!

Black cohosh

Hi,

I took black cohosh and I never got a headache, but it bothered my stomach some , but went away. I would either use the black cohosh or do the hrt, but not both. I don't think it is a good idea to mix them, as we are really not sure what affect it has on the body. You might ask your dr if it is okay to mix them.

I found eating less salt, sugar, and only eating whole grains and no white rice or potaotes helped me lose the weight. Exercise took off even more weight.

If you decide to take your hrt, you should give it about 6 weeks to give your body a chance to adapt to it, afterall hrt is not like what our ovaries made.

Here is a link on black cohosh:

We have a lot of good information in our Resources library on Hormones , No-Hormones, and Menopause you might want to look at .

Black cohosh

I had a total hysterectomy and ovary removal 14 years ago because of endometriosis & fibroids. Recently I lost part of my colon because of continued endometriosis. I was advised to stop taking HRT immediately and the hot flashes started with a vengence!! I am taking Remifemin after being on HRT for 14 years. It took about 4 weeks for me to see a difference in the hot flashes and night sweats. Always dress in layers so when you get hot you can take stuff off. And schedule to have a long talk with your GYN or healthcare provider regarding your symptoms. Good luck.

Black cohosh

I have been taking Black Cohosh for awhile now. I don't get a head ache from it but before I started taking Black Cohosh and was on Hrts, I was getting really bad head aches and joint pain, plus many, many more problems.
About two months ago my Dr. gave me the estrogen cream inserts to help with virginal dryness in a very low dose. I got the headaches back in a vengeance. I stopped it and only take Black Cohosh, Vit. E and Cilium daily, and I am good to go. The hot flashes can be a pain at time but they are so much better then before.
Hope you find your balance. I am still looking for mine in other areas.
This is only my experience, I am not a doctor and can not tell you what good for your body or not.
Hugs, Sherrall
