Recovering at home

HI I am gome and trying to recover. The stay at the hospital was very frustrating for me. I had a spinal tap done and I was told it was spose to last 12 hours and it only lasted 4 hours on me I was miserable asking my finace to shoot me and get me out of my misery. I cried constantly and it didnt help with having students doing much of my pain management and not doing things the right way. For example A student nurse was tring to give me my shot of pain meds which took 10 mins to begin with to get it all in my iv and she was running around with it looking for my chart as I was screaming in pain. So much for recovering good in the hospital I felt better at home.
I am having problems with gas and the pain coming from that. What can I do to get it out? Every time I pee or have a bowel movement it about knocks me out. Also pain wise my hips are hurtin pretty bad is that normal>? I am an emotional wreck now since I have no hormones left since they took everything I went to get my pain pills and when it came time to get them they said our insurance wasnt working/appoveing any of it. I criied for about an hour after as my great fiance was comforting me saying we have the money we can get it and if we didnt he was gonna find some way to get it. I am now getting hot flashes which is a pain lol. I hope this all gets better. Also is it a good idea to have help here if possible at home for the first 2 weeks or is 1 week sufficent? My finace was called back to work and has to go back on this coming monday but can stay on lay off if I need him here Please help me decide whagt i should have him do Which is the best way to go?
I am gonna go now sorry for making this so long and thanks ahead for any help I get and thanks for the support

I'm sorry that you are feeling so bad. Some things to help with the gas pains - walking helps. I sat in a rocking chair and rocked to get it moving. Also at night when it bothered laying down, I propped the side that was hurting on a body pillow. It moved it around enough that I could sleep without my shoulder killing me. I hope this helps.

Hang in there babe..it will get better if you just have patience. I too am having those horrible cramps at bathroom time..but I just hold on to my tummy pillow and they eventually pass.
It would be a good idea to have someone around for more than a week..I am 1wk 1day post op and still cant do much for myself..DH has been a gem, I know he's getting tired of waiting on me but it IS necessary for a while.
I hope you can get the pain relief you need..I am down now to just taking 3 ibuprofin every 4 hrs for pain and it helps. I had a Rx for Percocet but after the first one, I quit those..they make me too "squirrelly". Just rest, take it real easy and heal, heal, heal!
Blessings and a big

Linda(Lady Buggs41),
Hey what is the dose of your ibprofens? I am perscribed this.... 2 percocet which are 5/500 mg every 6 hours and 1 ibrofen 600mg 3 times a day and then i have some antibiotic i take 2 times a day. I cant stand this I tried to call the dr who perscribed the meds and his nurse said to call my reg dr as he was the one who wanted me on these because i have been on narcotics since March of this year. I want to wean off them but i cant figure out how I am taking only one of the percoset with 2 ibprofen for the first 2 doses and then at night I take the perscibed dose which is somewhat workin i get a bit more crampy but I can deal with it. I really wanna be of all percoset but I dont know what dose of Ibprfen to take. I also noticed some pain in my hips/legs at times is that normal? And when I read about the bladder hurting where is that my main pain is where my ovaries use to be. Today I am feeling pretty good now my meds kicked in Ill be walking more today like i did yesterday so i know that is going to help also. Thanks for all the advice it really helps . Yes my finace is great also he said he is going to need a vacation after i feel better for dealing with our 3 kids lol but he doesnt mind it he is a great guy. Thanks and i hope you get better fast also take care ill pm you some day if that is alright with you

I know what you mean about the spinal tap!! I had an allergic reaction to it and was icthing like crazyso they gave me something for the icthing and never told me it would counter act with the spinal tap.....then I was in REAL pain! They then put me on the moriphin pump....and to my pleasure it made me even itchier They told me pick one pain or itch so I picked itch....I would have payed someone with something sharp , I was thinking a nice wooden ruler with the metal edge on it, just so I cold get a good scratch. lol
For the gas pains on the 3rd day I overdid it by walking too much...but the gas pains were just about killing me!!! I just ended up uses supositories and lots of prunes to hurry things up and get all that gas out, I did try not to eat anything that would i know would cause gas. I hope your feeling better soon

mez, don't worry about weaning yourself off the pain medication until you get past the first big hurdle of gas pain, if yours goes like mine. the gas was horrible up unitl i started having bowel movements; by the second day of BMs the pain was SO much less. don't try to be a hero and suffer through that without what the doctor prescribed! the doctor does know what he/she is doing!

for me, the REALLY painful gas and gut was about 5-6 days, and it's decreased some each day. Taking Miralax daily. You'll catch up soon! hang in there!

Ibuprofin is 3-200mg tablets every 4 hrs through the day..it has been enough for me. I dislike the Percocet and all the narcotic pain relievers because they make me nauseated and dizzy. You can take up to 4 tablets..that would be equal to one 800mg dose of Motrin. I would stick to what the Dr prescribed though if you have a lot of pain.
Blessings...

thanks for all the support everyone! I am getting worried on a few more things When I pee it seems like after i go or towards the end it stops but feels like there is somthing blocking the rest of it and it hurts that way as well. I also am concerned about a little bleeding After i go to the bathroom when i wipe it is a pinkish color and it seems like at the end of the day my pad is half colored with blood i am assuming. I am trying to walk around to get the gas out but did I overdo it? I have pain after I pee/and before I have to is there somthing maybe wrong with my bladder? The last thing as of right now that I am worried about is menopause. I can handle the hot flashes cold sweats but how do I control the endless tears that flow over stupid things? I dont want to cry as that hurts me more hope someone can help me again like you have thanks sisters you all are great
