Suprapubic catheter & sitz baths

I'm scheduled for a lynx sling, suprapubic catheter, & at the pre-op was told to buy a donut seat. I'm also to prepare myself for sitz baths (hospital to send me home with the sitz toilet gizmo) with epsom salts 4 x day, 15 min each time. Bladder training will be to try to go on my own, then with catheter, measuring each time, until my own output is much more (80%) than the catheter output, when I'l be ready to have it removed.

Have you had this, how it was for you & how long did you have the catheter? What about pain? I want to focus on healing with a positive attitude, - it seems like I'll have lots of homework! Thanks so much for any info!

Suprapubic catheter & sitz baths

I had the sup. cath and it wasn't a big deal..however, I only had it in 4 days before it was removed. The "training" is a pain(not actual pain, but a pain in the butt) but honestly, I was relieved that after going on my own, there was a "backup" to help me empty if I couldn't. It was frustrating that I couldn't empty completely on my own but after they took the cath out and I relaxed..it happened within a week. The removal of the cath feels like a bit of burning going thru the area where it was but it wasn't excrutiating. The only trick I can tell you is that the tube has to be higher and at the correct position for it to empty itself into the bag.
