How long does lack of appetite last post op?

I'll be six weeks on Thursday and I still don't have an appetite yet. The food I do eat I have to force just to get some nutrients. I drink Boost Plus and shakes from the doctor's office for nutrition. Does anyone else still not have an appetite post op? I'm going to bring it up at my 6 week chk appt on Friday but wanted to ask if this is normal amongst other women? I've lost 13 lbs and I was very petite to begin with so it's really an issue.

Thanks!

Butterflyboo, I am very petite too and lost a lot of weight before and after hyst. I lived on the Boost drinks, are you drinking the one to help regain weight after illness or surgery? I can't remember exactly which one it is. If you want you can pm me or email me. It was a struggle for me too, and now I am up to 110 from 103. It takes awhile for food to tast good, glad you are going to the doc to make sure ther is nothing else going on. Please keep me posted, sweetie..

eightofus - I, too, had my post-op check today and am up 5 pounds. Then again, tomorrow I could be down another 5. I'm a yo-yo that way.
I found that food didn't taste all that good for about 2-3 weeks. I ate a ton of sweets - it was the only thing I could handle. At 3-4 weeks I got really depressed, and ate MORE sweets because I was depressed. Oh, and chips (which still didn't taste all that great). I'm back to "normal" now (5 weeks), but things taste really "salty" to me.

Wish that I had your problem. Maybe we could swap?
Keep up with the Boost & Ensure drinks as long as you can to avoid malnutrition. Good luck!

I'm the opposite. I have increased appetite. I weighed last week and have gained 5 lbs I had lost 30 lbs pre surgery and was happy, now I am fighting to not keep gaining. I know it's the inactivity from the surgery. I cannot wait to get back to exercising so I feel like eating healthy again.

If I could share my appetite I sure would with you. I hope you get it back soon. Good luck.

My post op loss of appetite lasted all of about 5 minutes! I have not gained but it sure is a struggle. Walking helps to keep it off, and hopefully at my 6 week tomorrow I will be freed to go back to workout jail.

My appetite was gone for a very long time! A few months actually! I drank High Protein Boost for what seemed like forever! And sometimes I would drink tomato soup or have mashed potatoes and gravy. Great diet! Since I am also thin, it was of concern that I had weight loss, so I had to work at the Boost.

Work with your dr and if need be, see your GP. Your appetite should come back, but for some of us it does take awhile.

Best wishes to you!

I have lost 18 pounds and holding, unlike you though, I need to lose weight. Before, was it at all hard to eat? Do you feel constipated, or gassed up? Do you get nausea? Are you in pain? Praying that you will find the answer. A warm cyber hug.
