prolapsed uterus and bladder

I am scheduled for vaginal hysterectomy (my doctor thinks--says he may have to do abdominal when he sees what's going on) and bladder repair with a sling procedure. I have no problems such as tumors, just the gravity thing. I am hoping that some of you can tell me if you have had these two procedures simultaneously and how the recovery went. I am scheduled for surgery on the 6th of June and my family is planning a reunion about 75 miles away on June15. I would only ride down there and then do nothing but lie around. Am I kidding myself that this is possible. Any words would help. I am so grateful for this site!!

prolapsed uterus and bladder

I had just the bladder sling op. 5 years ago and I can tell you hysterectomy not even involved, there is NO WAY after just the bladder sling op. that I could have
gone anywhere---PERIOD--NO WAY !!!! My husband talked me into watching fireworks from inside the car 10 days after my bladder sling op. and I begged him to take me home after an hour. You will still have a cathater in you a week later, too. Call Granny, and tell her you have to pass this year, Sorry!!

prolapsed uterus and bladder

Hi Judyray! I just had a vaginal hysterectomy and a badder repair/sling (which required an abdominal incision) on May 1, 2001. I was in the hospital 3 days after surgery...not icluding day of the surgury which was a suprise for me because I included it when I figured when I would be coming home. My cathetar was removed the day I came home but, my dr says some pple go home with one for a few days. I was extremely tired for first couple of weeks at home and for the first 4 days after the catheter was removed, had quite a bit of bladder discomfort. I am 4 weeks post op now and still get tired after being up and "puttering" around for a couple of hrs. It is HARD not to ignore all the tiredness and get back to regular activity since otherwise I feel pretty much back to my usual self but, I am trying to listen to all the sisters and they seem to say to take it easy until dr says otherwise. Most likely you will not even feel like sitting up to visit with your family...so unless you can talk them into having the reunion at your bedside, I'd say stay home and rest. I'm sure they'll understand Take care of yourself

prolapsed uterus and bladder

Hi Judy Welcome to Hyster Sisters. I'm so glad you've found us. It really is a great site where you'll find valuable information as well as lots and lots of support.

I had a TVH with rectocele repair in December 2000. There is NO WAY I could have travelled 20 miles in a car, let alone 75 miles, 11 days after my surgery!!! Even without an abdominal incision, you'll have a multitude of internal stitches. Sitting puts a lot of pressure on those stitches.

I know how hard this must be: my surgery was December 14th, just a little over a week before X-Mas. I missed family gatherings because my family lives 30 miles away.

You only have one chance to heal and this is it. Think of it this way: you'll be feeling so much better at the next family reunion

Thanks, Danielle

I appreciate your advice. I guess I did not realize that this operation was as 'big of a deal' as it is. The gathering that I will be missing is not just a family reunion--it is an annual golf tournament that my father helped start and they are honoring him this year--he died during heart surgery a few years ago. I have designed the programs for the ceremony and just wanted so much to be with good friends and family. but, obviously, that is selfish of me. Plus if I feel as bad as it sounds like I will, I wouldn't enjoy it anyway. Thanks, again, for your support.

{{{Judy}}} Now that you've explained the situation I understand why you wanted to go. Is there any possibility of delaying the surgery until AFTER the reunion/tournament? The "gravity" problems could probably endure a few additional weeks

prolapsed uterus and bladder

I too am going in for a hyst and bladder repair due to "gravity"on June 8th. Mine is going to be Laproscopic hopefully. I have been told by DD and everyone here, plus my mom (who works for my doc) that I should plan on a minimum of 1 week of TOTAL bed rest if not 2 weeks. I wont be able to drive for 2 weeks or even ride for more that 15 min at a time for the first 2 weeks. I would really follow these lovely ladies advise and REST REST REST REST!!!
As they say, you only have one chance to heal...
Take care and my thoguhts will be with you.
