Birth Control Pills before surgery

O.K. I've been doing some heavy cruising thru these boards, and I thought I read somewhere that you aren't supposed to be taking birth control pills prior to surgery. Did I read this somwhere? My pre-op is so close to my surgery date that I could be on about 10 different things that are not allowable. (I know I have to go off my relafen for my fibromyalgia in the next day or so ). I try to keep my call ins to my doc down to about once a week. But I want to know what you all know on this subject.
Thanx,
Karen

Birth Control Pills before surgery

My doctor made me stop BC pills two week from surgery. I believe it was because he was afraid it would interfere with bleeding during surgery? I'm not sure. Be sure and stop all aspirin/advil/alka Seltzer/and vitamin E. All can cause blood thinning and possible bleeding during the surgery.

Birth Control Pills before surgery

Karen, I would call my doctor. I understand that you want to keep your calls down to a manageable few, but this is important and could result in cancelling your surgery. You might want to write down all the questions you have and ask them at the same time

You're right Danielle!

I'll call my doctor tomorrow. Thing is I'm currently on the No-Sex Wagon due to a recent conization of the cervix and I'm REALLY HOPING that my doc will give me a brief O.K. for sex right before my surgery. if I'm not on birth control....many unsavory thoughts there. But ,what I'm not into is post-poning the SURGERY DATE!!!!!! Thanx so much for the warning!!!

things that make you go hummm

i was on birth control pills before my TAH/bladder and rectal repair surgery 4 weeks ago. not only was i told to keep taking them but... you know how you stop taking them to have your period? i was told to keep taking them up to the day of my surgery. my pills should have ended on a sat and my surgery was not until tuesday. i believe that this made my transition from birth control to total estrogen replacement easier. my body still had estrogen on board and to date i have not any any hot flashes or any of the emotional things i have heard so much about. so i am hopeful all things will not change. good luck on your future surgery.

Birth Control Pills before surgery

My dd told me to get off the pill last week for my TAH on 6/20. I convinced him to let me continue because I'm going on vacation. Now I must stop on the 13th. This will probably cause me problems until surgery.

birth control pills b4

I was a good girl today & called the doc's office. She was in surgery all day today, and all I got was the nurse, who ,quite experienced, said she'd never heard of that before! I mean, at this point I understand more phisiology than I'd care to know, but this one I don't get... THe doc is calling me baack tomorrow on this, and will update you all accd.... Curious ?

just to let anyone know who is curious... yesterday the nurse had't heard of stopping the birth control pills before surgery... but never fear, the doc had and agreed thatI should stop them! Thanx for the fore-warning there Sisters! Reason being is it cuts down on the risk of blood clots!!
