Don't be afraid

hello, i just had a TAH and i seem to be doing fine 3 days out. i was totally terrified. my friends all think i am strong, so it was hard to keep a stiff upper lip. i tried to change the date of the surgery and my doctor was booked until around Christmas. i contemplated running away from home, but as the date drew closer i just gave it up to God and knew that I would be ok.

and, i am happy to say, i am ok. i received excellent care. i was crying and we told them right away i was terrified. the anesthesiologist asked me if i was crying because i was going ot miss my uterus. lol

once they got me ready, they gave me some 'anti-terrify' medicine in my iv. that did the trick. i remember being wheeled down the hall and i was talking, i think, and the next thing i rememer is being in a room.

it is ok to be scared and very normal. but it will be ok. this is apparently a very common surgery. just look at all the sisters here! this is a wonderful site full of good, down to earth info. it helped me a lot.

I, too, had no complications. I am 11 days post-op and feel great! I have no more pain than before my hyst. I haven't taken narcotics in a week, but continue to take motrin as an anti-inflammatory. I had a wonderful experience at the castle. Now I look back and wonder why I was such a basket case. Good luck to all you ladies-in-waiting! It really is the worst part.

Don't be afraid

I'm one of those that had a few minor complications, but nothing that endangered me or gave me one moment of fear, okay? I'm just going to take a bit longer to recover, that's all. You know what? I'm HAPPY, and I hurt less than I did before the surgery! Really. It's wonderful! It's worth the wait, the fear, and the uncertainty.

Hi I am new here so I am sorry if I do this wrong. I am so glad to hear the great remarks here. I am scared to death. My surgery in on 12-4-2006, I have 2 grown sons I am 41 and not worried about the procedure in that manner. I am scared what if it turns out worse? I pray for each and every one of you. May GOD bless and keep you and your families.

Don't be afraid

We're here to give hugs, hold hands, and dispense tissues as needed to the sisters who still wait. We know what it's like to have an aching swollen gut, stained clothes, unsympathetic surrounding persons, that constant feeling of unwellness, the anger and frustrations, and of course the crying jags that make you wonder if you're going insane. Been there, done that, got the HysterSisters coffee cups and crowns.

That's why we're here. We're healing, but we don't want anyone else to feel any more fear and uncertainty than absolutely necessary.

Lena
