laprascopic supracervical hysterectomy
Hi, I'm new here, and I think all the support and understanding is wonderful! I am probably very close to getting a hysterectomy due to possible adenomyosis, and maybe some prolapse, my uterus is retroverted sharply. I have been researching for a good year now, and I know of this procedure -the laprascopic supracervical hyst. that allows the doctor to do a hysterctomy completely through lapraroscopy, leaving the cervix intact, for better support, sexual function, and a much quicker recovery. It's not for anyone who has to have the ovaries removed as well. I want to have this type of hysterectomy. Does anyone know of a doctor in the Boston area who does this? The doctor who developed this procedure is Dr. Thomas Lyons, in Atlanta GA. I'd love to go there, but I have to fight with my Insur. I'm so worn out by all this after years of being told nothing was wrong with me, and "You're getting older" etc. My life has been so completely turned upside down by all the symptoms, without any explanations, or support. I found so many similar symtoms as mine in other messages from hystersisters....maybe I'm not so CRAZY AFTERALL!
Thanks so much.

laprascopic supracervical hysterectomy
I dont know of a dr in your area............. but wanted to share with you this info.
I too want the same kind of hysterectomy. I called many doctor's offices to find someone who performs this proceedure, then found out if they accepted my HMO (cigna), paid for a consultation myself to see if 1. I was a canidate, 2. IF I liked them.......... once I found one I liked (and who did this proceedure often) I changed the medical group that I belong to, so that this new gyno would be my gyno. I have had to wait for a month for the paper work to go through. Now (as of June 1st) I belong to the medical group and gyno that I want SHOULD I decide to have this done, all my "ducks are in a row".
A good way to start your search is to contact a major hospital in your area and get a list of gyno's that operate out of there. The bigger hospital have this certain piece of equiptment that is needed (and very very expensive) Then call each one.
It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be to find someone to do this proceedure.
How I did it was to get a list of all doctor in the Cigna plan and start calling. Then switched to the medical group that they belonged to.
good luck
xoxo DonnaFay
