What are ovaries attached to?

Silly questin, I know but hubby and I got to thinking and we can't figure it out.

In 2001 I had a TVH...removal of my uterus and cervix. My ovaries and tubes were left in place. Last Tuesday I had my tubes removed due to hydrosalpinx.

I know the ovaries are not actually attached to the tubes. Do they (the ovaries) have their own support structures? Are they just floating around in there? Or maybe they were tacked down to something by the doctor?

Too much time on my hands and too many pain meds leads to silly questions.

I asked the same question -- my doc told me the ovaries are attached to ligaments which hold them in place. I was wondering the same thing? Like do they just float around in there? LOL Hope I helped answer your question.

Well, now I am picturing them bouncing around at the end of the ligaments

I have my first post op visit on Friday. I will ask my doc.

My doc said that he "tacked them in place" to keep them from "flopping around in there" (he's so much fun!). My mom (a nurse) says that they attach them to the nearby ligaments or something like that. I don't know, but my girls don't like to be tied down (they get it from me). They have protested an awful lot!

Here is a link you might want to check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ovary. I think I would make a list of specific questions and talk to my doctor about exactly what was done during my surgery, what were my ovaries attatched to, etc.
