How do I research
I am hooked on this website. It has become a part of my day. I am not scheduled to have surgery until Jan.9. I would like to know if anyone has any information on how I can research my Dr. It's great to have all this information but if my Dr. has a bad track record, what good will it do me?

Dear Zone - You could probably start at the American Medical Association and go from there. Good luck with your surgery and take good care of yourself, Hallie

How do I research
I asked the office manager how often my doctor did the surgery I was having. She got all caught up in wanting to get it right, so I finally said "approximately - roughly - in your estimation". Obviously you want an endorsment from someone other than the doctor herself or her staff, but I did find it reassuring when my doc said she's never had to convert from laparscopic to abdominal.

How do I research
I picked my first gyn on my own through internet research and my insurance list. I didn't like him very much. The second gyn is my best friend's doc. And doc #2 referred me to her partner for surgery. It's a group practice and they're all great. I appreciated having personal referrals. It turns out the nurses in the office and many at the hospital that I met, have also been treated by my surgeon and love him as much as I do!
Best Wishes!!

How do I research
Have you gotten your second and third opinions yet? Ask around, ask your other Dr's for references. I have heard that some women have called the surgical recovery floor of their hospital and asked to speak with a nurse on duty, then asked her who she would go to for the same type of surgery. I asked my Dr who would he send his wife to.
You do have to be careful how you ask for referrals. They will not say anything negative about a specific person, yet they will answer the questions I suggested asking.
Best Wishes,
 ,
Kay
