Hysterversary!!

I am quickly approaching my one year anniversary of my radical hysterectomy! Last year I never thought that this day would come. The days went so slowly and the very idea that I could actually feel good again was so out of this world. The year couldn't go by fast enough for me and that's all I seemed to talk about for the months that followed my surgery. I couldn't wait until 'next year' when I knew I would feel better.

Now it's here and I feel better than I thought I could. I still have some minor lingering side effects: some tenderness still in the abdomin area every once in a while, some minor bladder and bowel issues - probably more from the radiation, but nothing that is life altering or too bothersome.

I am grateful to be here with my family and to be in good physical health (mental is a whole other story I am working on!).

I really didn't think that this anniversay date would be something emotional for me, but as it quickly approaches (Dec. 1st) the feelings of anxiety that I felt leading up to the surgery are resurfacing and I am remembering them quite clearly. It is, in fact, very emotional, but I am thankful to be able to look back and know that I made all of the right decisions for me and my family in regards to my health.

Good luck and best wishes to everyone out there going through surgeries and treatments!!

Jasmine

Jasmine,

Congratulations! It is so inspiring to hear from sisters that have gone through and made it with such success!! Thank you for posting and letting us all know it will be ok. Go with your emotions. It's ok to cry or whatever to let them out!

Hysterversary!!

Dear Jasmine:

I am glad to hear you are feeling better, and I hope the next year will bring you complete healing.

I have also started reliving some of the feelings surrounding testing and diagnosis that started about this time last year. I wasn't really expecting it. It is bittersweet to think of all you have come through, but the sweet part is that you HAVE come through. Regards, Blue.

Hysterversary!!

Jasmisne, Congrats!!!!! I am one year and one day ahead of you. November 30 will be my two year hysterversary (it is also my hubbies birthday - what a present for him huh?). Even two years out I have been having a very hard and emotional time the last few days. Reliving everything that happened 'two years ago today so to speak' I know it is all good because between my surgery and chemo I have been cancer free for almost two years now, but like you that anxiety has taken a hold of me and I am not really sure what to do with those feelings. Most folks dont get it but I know my sisters here do.

Again conrats and many more to come!

Hysterversary!!

So very true. No one but those who have been there can really understand, nor do they want to. The therapist I just started seeing specializes in treating cancer patients, so she sort of understands because she's seen it so many times. I'm just glad that I have an appt this week with this anniversary coming up on Friday. I don't know whether to celebrate or crawl under the covers and stay there the whole day.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words and sharing your experiences - it really does help to know that I am not alone with these feelings.

Even though the annviversary dates can be hard to deal with I pray that we all have many, many, many more to come!!!

Hysterversary!!

Dear Jasmine,

Many congratulations on your year of ever improving health. I just passed my hysterversary but am still smack dab in the middle of treatment due to a "persistence" (as opposed to a recurrence). It gives me hope to think that next year at this time I might be like you -- cancer-free and feeling pretty good.

Here's to many healthy hysterversaries!

Jasmine, boy do I understand your feelings. When you are going through the rush of surgery and treatments, you don't have the ability to be able to process all that is happening to you.

I'm finishing chemo this week and hope to start to sort it all out, if I can't do it myself, I'll seek help also. Somehow I need to come to grips with the fact that the unthinkable has happened. It feels like Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. I'd be interested to hear what your therapist has to say about it, if you don't mind sharing.

All the very best to you on your continued recovery. May you and NED continue to be the best of friends!!

Jasmine, I'm so glad that you're feeling well physically. Congrats on your 1-yr. hysterversary. I sometimes think the emotional side of cancer is harder than the physical. Maybe it's just the time of year also, seems like I get a little meloncholy around this time of year. It's good that you have an understanding therapist. Get out from under the covers and enjoy your life. 's
