Recovery time

I'm having my hysterectomy on Dec 27th. I'm really nervous. I'm told 6 weeks is recovery time. However some people are able to return to work sooner. I have a desk job. My doctor said he is not going to cut me. He is going to do it vaginal. Is that where he goes through my belly button too? Give me some recovery expectations please....

When they go through your belly button along with two or three other small incisions it is called laparoscopic. I don't know much about the recovery time for a completely vaginal hysterectomy. Mine was laparoscopic and I was released after 10 days.

Recovery time

Six weeks is a basic time frame for any kind of hyster. Some can and do go back to work earlier, and some need more time. The problem is that everybody heals at their own rate. I was able to go back to bartending full time at sixs week after a TAH, though I'd been told eight weeks minimum. By time I was nine weeks out, I was able to lift full cases, but I was VERY careful in doing so, and I still don't move full kegs.

Don't push yourself... Even with a TVH, you will have internal incisions that you need to treat very gently. There is no right answer for how long it will take you to get back to the office. All things in their own time.

I had TVH also. I have a full time desk job that I was released to at 4 wks. and a part time waitressing job that I was released to at 5 wks. I won't lie. The first few days back were awful! I was exhausted but I think alot of that is perfectly normal no matter when you go back. Good luck and keep looking forward! Just a short amount of pain compared to what you'd be facing w/out the hyst.

Recovery time

I am going back to work this weekend, and I am so nervous. I am scared I may overdo and be stuck home for more time. I am so anxious to resume my "normal" life, but at the same time I get so tired easily so I know it will be a while before that happens. I am also a bartender and waitress, so as long as I stay away from lifting I should be okay right? My dr isnt much help he said I can go back to work when I feel ready. I feel like I am ready to get out of the house So wish me luck!!

I fear going back too early too. I can take 6 weeks of course but I only have about 4 weeks of leave time available. I also have short tern disability but I hate to take the cut in pay. Regardless, I hate to push myself and make it worse so I guess my body will give me the signs. I'm just nervous about the whole pain thing.

You were in the Hospital for 10 days, is this normal for this type of operation. My husband was in the Hospital for 5 days after a laparoscopic colon resection.

I'm sorry. I guess I didn't make myself clear. I was actually not even in the hospital a full day. My surgery was at 7:30 AM, I think. I left the hospital around 9:30 that night. I was cleared by the doc to go back to normal activities after 10 days.

I had LAVH, which is where they go in with the camera in the belly button and a few (2 for me) other spots to cut everything loose and pull it out vaginally. I am 4 weeks today and feel really good. However, I could not imagine going to work this week. Just because you don't have stitches on the outside, doesn't mean you don't have LOTS of them on the inside. Normal hospital stay seems to be 1-5 days depending on the surgery method. You only get one chance to heal. My opinion would be wait until 6 weeks. Hugs to you!

Why is everyone in such a hurry to go back to work? I'm looking forward to a 2 month "vacation." I told my boss not to expect me back to work until 2 months after surgery and then it would be half-time the first 2 weeks back. I'm taking full advantage of it and short-term disability benefits
