today's the day

I'm going to the hospital today, at last. I realize that I haven't been waiting nearly as long as many of you, but this last month has seemed like an eternity. From the decision to go for it on Election Day till now has been a harrowing journey. I've been hospitalized twice to receive transfusions. The bleeding will not stop. My doctor tried to get me an earlier date, but the hospital could not schedule an OR any sooner. I thought they would have to do the surgery on an emergency basis Thanksgiving day, but they stabilized me with another two units of blood and sent me home. I've been on bed rest since then and bored out of my mind. My son decided to come home from college to see me last night, so of course I made dinner. Big mistake. In too much pain now to sleep. I just look at the house and want to cry. So much to do and no way to do any of it. Well, it will be over soon and I'm sure I'll be feeling better in no time.

As you say, the waiting is absolutely the hardest part. Considering how lousy it's been for you before the surgery, I have no doubt you'll be thrilled and relieved once it's over. It has been a great decision for me.
