Bowel problems post-op

Now 8 weeks post op with very sluggish bowel despite HUGE amounts of fibre, stool softeners, water and walking. Also getting increasing heartburn, which I'm sure is linked. Any ideas? 'Tis driving me nuts!

Bowel problems post-op

I can't remember when I didn't have problems "getting it out" I was finally diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome about 8 years ago. I guess i figgured it was just me-but I kept having pain especially after meals, so I went & got told to up the fiber, water & exercise.
Now, 4 weeks post op-yippee!, I am still taking pericolace twice a day, 20-30 grams of fiber & drinking like a fish & walking as much as I can, 2-3 miles a day. I still had to use a laxitive over the weekend because it had been 4 days & I knew if it didn't "come out soon" it would be hard & painful.
Your not in this alone. My Dr told me to continue on the pericolace & I'm waiting for our FFA fruit to come in! Grapefruit is a natural laxative. It helps keep things normal for me & I've run out! Be careful when eating it though, it can interfere with meds if taken about the same time. I try to eat mine in the afternoon when I don't take any medicine.
