Update on today's CT scan and new treatment regimen

Just got home from a very long day. CT scan this morning and then onto my gyn/onc 2 month appt (remember I drive almost 2 hours for everything, so I try to make one trip).

CT scan showed fluid in abdomen, but in places which would not allow for a paracentesis (sp?). Some very small tumors, and a coating on the outside on the bowel wall. According to my gyn/onc, there is no way she would try to go back in and scrape that coating or attempt those very small tumors. So, continued chemo is the plan. The challenge here is to pick the right one.

Went to my medical oncologist after that and discussed chemo options. They were: try carbo again along with Avastin which has very good results for lung and colon patients, and the few ovarian that have tried it. Or, Doxil, Gemzar or Topetecan. He reviewed the side effects of Avastin with me, and he said that about 10% of patients in the Phase III clinical had bowel perforations. He felt these stats may be skewed as most of the ladies participating had disease out of control. I asked the Dr. what he would select if it were his wife, and he said he would have her try the carbo/Avastin. So, that's what we decided on. Chemo went well, just a little nauseated. Treatment will be every 3 weeks for up to 6 treatments.

So, I have an o.k. CT scan (could be better, could be worse), and a treatment plan that I'm comfortable with. Hopefully this distended abdomen will go down quick!

Bless you Lori, I hope this works. Now they know what they are up against and it sounds like you have a good team. These treatments will be out of the way soon and you'll be feelin' fine.

Oh Lori,

I am so happy that you and your team have so quickly come up with a plan that really does sound do-able. I hope it's easy on you, but brutal and ruthless on those cancer cells.

You really are amazing. You have been through so much, yet, you keep on going, like the energizer bunny!

God bless you, Nut

Comforted...

Hi, Lori,
Your doctor sounds like a very good guy. I'm glad that you didn't have a lot of side effects from this treatment and that you have a plan that you're comfortable with.

Wishing you the best and sending a bunch of your way.

Remembering you in prayer.

Lori, you have a great team and they came up with a good plan and there are others out there too--but I bet this will work. Avastin is getting good press. Let's hope this is the one that kicks out the cancer forever!
