Diet Day Before Surgery-can You Eat Anything Until Midnight???

I had to stop eating "real" food at Noon the day before surgery. Then between Noon and Midnight I could have clear liquids only. I had to do bowel prep, 2 enemas. One at 4pm and one at 8pm.

I was worried about the bm after surgery. I was on clear liquid diet until second bm. The morning after surgery, they started giving me milk of mag. No bm. They then gave me a suppository. Didn't take long after that. Man, where did that come from? I had nothing but clear liquids for 3 days. Who knew?

Limeygrl, I see you're in Jackson, MS. I'm in Hattiesburg and have my TVH on December 26th. I wonder if my dr. will order an enema or more? Perhaps southern docs go that route? I'll find out tomorrow at my pre-op. Since mine's the 26th, I am starting to think I might have to miss Christmas dinner (and I was really hoping to pig out on all that stuff and get really full!) But, maybe chicken noodle soup might be on my menu while everyone else pigs out??

I'm scheduled for 12/28, and my only pre-op orders were not to eat solid after 9PM, no liquids after midnight. No mention of an enema or douche. I know that I probably will not eat a lot - too nervous!!

AGH!!! Starting today I can only have "low roughage" foods. Potatoes, rice etc. I have to do an ounce of Milk of Magnesia tonight and tomorrow. I don't have any extra weight so this should be interesting!

I was really concerned about not being able to eat much the day before my surgery because the day before is Christmas and my family always has a big feast. My doctor told me it was ok to eat anything I wanted just be sure to do an enema the night before.

Hey Stormydawn....I'm the same day as you, and was worried about Christmas dinner too! But, had my pre-op yesterday and they said I could eat what I wanted up until midnight (surg is at 1pm the next day)...but I do have to do an enema before bed. Guess I can live with that if I can eat turkey & mashed potatoes! But, I'm still going to be nervous, so my tummy will probably feel a little queasy....nice to know another 12/26 hyster sister out there!
