loss of libido

I'm not sure whether to post here or the hormone jungle but here goes. I am 4 months out from a SAH (kept ovaries). I've recovered well but have experienced no big 'O's and loss of libido. I'm 53. I'm wondering whether or not to call my Doc. Anyone with advice? Thanks, Sue

loss of libido

Dear Sue, I'm 53 also and 3 months out. I respond sexually to my husband, but it takes a long time and it's just not quite the same. I don't EVER want to initiate it, but I do because I don't want my husband (of 3 1/2 years) to think I don't desire him anymore. I'm wondering if we need to re-evaluate our hormone situation with our doctors. I'm on 0.05 Estradiol patch (Vivelle dot), but I think I also need some testosterone. what do you think............anyone out there have an idea?

loss of libido

I'm in the same condition....I respond (more slowly).... I'm wondering if we still need to heal a bit more. My yearly exam is in February which will put mr around the 6 mos. mark. I am not taking any hormones as my ovaries I believe are working. I sleep well, no night sweats but I'm wondering also if my hormones are running downhill fast! Time will tell. S

Help Is Here....

I can't believe none of your docs talked to you about this!!

When I said no libido my doc immediately said testosterone...and it worked!! Our bodies do produce testosterone and some women do "crave" it after surgical menopause.

Call your doc today and discuss it with them..there are risks associated with testosterone.

It's working for me....good luck

loss of libido

I am right there in the boat with you. I am 52 and had finised menopause several years ago. To top off the not really wanting to bother I had bleeding and pain the other night after 6 weeks of activity. I am heaing slowly. Now I REALLY am not in the mood. I am going to ask my Dr about the testosterone as soon as I have healed a little better!

Thanks for posting this. I really thought I was the only one feeling this way!

loss of libido

I went into this surgery knowing full well this may be a side affect....and my age makes this more possible too. I was doing fairly well with sexual response but seem to have gone downhill quickly. Yes, I know about the testosterone cream and the herbal remedy, maca. I am going to call my Dr. after the holidays. I appreciate your posts. Right now I'm just flat out tired geting ready for the holidays! haha! What was I reading in the newspaper yesterday.....sleep is the 'new sex'!

loss of libido

This is really strange because for most of the "off limits" time all I could think of was sex! What happened to that????? Oh well, we can ask Santa to bring our libido back for Christmas as we have been very good girls!
