Phantom Pain? HELP!

Im Ok sitting up but laying down it feels like there's a hole where my left ovary used to be (well-there might be). Ive never been shot but I think this is how it would feel. Im on antibiotics and am lucky the incision isnt painful, even thou I had pulled loose a little and had to be resealed Wednesday. The pain is a constant throb and pain meds dont touch it. Had TAH/BSO with complications. There were tumors everywhere the Dr. needed to clamp. Does this have anything to do with the internal stitches dissolving or anything? I don't want to worry the Dr. if this is common. I feel good other than this pain.

Phantom Pain? HELP!

Dreamweaver1961,

I'm having a similar pain on my right side. The best way I can describe it is that if feels like my right ovary is blown up like a super tight balloon and if I push a little on that area it's going to pop! The meds have dulled the pain but they don't completely go away. I still have my ovaries BTW. I went yesterday and the doc feels like I"ve just over done it and strained muscles. I don't know - go figure. Maybe someone else has had the same experiene too and has a better explination.

I'm so sorry your having problems. Best wishes and I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Merry Christmas!

Phantom Pain? HELP!

My Dr. told me no lifting, pushing, pulling or stairs. How do we sit up without pushing or pulling? Ive been trying to go to sleep for 4 hrs now. Right now Im almost in tears. My boyfriend was supposed to come after Christmas and I called him tonight and begged him to get a ride to me Saturday. He's disabled and doesn't drive. Plus my dog is a seizure dog and he's worried about me tonight-THATS SCARY! He can predict my boyfriends seizures within 5 minutes and I don't know if the dog knows how bad I hurt or if Im about to get a blood clot or something. The house is a mess but its gonna have to stay that way until help comes. My Dr. had a fit when I told him I stood up and washed dishes. My incision is bandaged over and I can't take a shower until Dr. ok's it. Plus my arms look like pincushions. Call me whiny but I want my Demerol cocktail back! Merry Christmas.

Phantom Pain? HELP!

You are not whiny - you just need some more time to heal and as women we don't feel like we can take that time for ourselves. Did you have a TAH? Also, what pain meds are you taking? Some have ibuprofen or tylenol in them. I'm taking Percocet and it has tylenol in it. So at night I take Advil PM along with it and about two hours after I take all this I"m sleeping like a baby. YOu can only take two of these in a 24 hour period though. So resting during the day is still difficult but it feels so nice to sleep through the night.

As far as getting up can you roll to your side and then use your arms to push up. You are still pushing but it minimal compared to other ways.

I am so sorry you are having a difficult time. How frustsrating and stressful. I will say a little prayer for you today that things will work out for you.

Phantom Pain? HELP!

My procedure was about 6 weeks ago. I had my last post-op check and was cleared for take-off this past Tuesday. I kept the right ovary, but they removed the left one, and I've had an achey feeling where it used to be. I remember reading on the boards here or somewhere that our remaining "innards" have to find new homes and get settled in after the other stuff is removed, and I believe that's what I'm feeling on the left side. I had a cyst on the left ovary that had gotten rather large, so I'm sure it's a little roomier inside me than it used to be, if that makes sense. I've noticed that achey feeling where the RO used to be off and on over the past 4 weeks. It is getting less frequent and less painful as time passes.

Phantom Pain? HELP!

I think my bladder will be the most confused. Its been bouncing on a grapefruit sized fibroid for over a month. I see you had as big an incision as mine. You'd think modern medicine would have come up with an easier way to do this. Like maybe a zip-lock seal in case anything needs to come out later. Im not in as much pain today, but it seems to get worse at night. Take care of yourself. I feel better knowing Im not alone in this. Just a little blinded-thought it would be the incision site that would hurt but so far its OK.
