LAVH how long before you . . .

Those of you who had and LAVH or something similar how long was it before you began to vaccuum, drive, clean bath tubs, pick up kids, etc.....

I feel pretty good but I want to make sure that I don't over do it too much. I do still tire easily but I feel so silly sitting around.

You need to ask your doctor what is okay for you and when, especially since you had repairs along with your hyst. My GYN gives a for six weeks after the LAVH. Some doctors release their patients for activities sooner than that.

Find out what is okay for you! You only have one chance to heal right the first time!

My doc had released me for nearly all activities around the 3rd week. I hadn't had any complications and was healing great so he said to add activities as tolerated. Best wishes ~

I was driving at two weeks (short distances) and started back to work on a limited, part-time basis at three weeks. I'm rehearsing for a community theatre show that I'm in and have done light housework duties. I have not lifted anything or vacuumed yet. I've had a really good recovery and have been very pleased with how I've progressed. But I have been a very good girl (for the most part) on what I did and didn't do.

My doctor told me that as of the six week mark, I could resume normal life "according to what my body tells me." In other words, if it hurts, don't do it for awhile longer. He cautioned about the lifting of any really heavy for quite some time.

I had a TVH not L assisted, but still. I had it on Nov. 30, and um.. well due to my wonderful circumstances, I can say that I haven't yet done much. My husband and I both work for the school district, so we kinda had it planned, he took the first week I was home off, with pay, then the next week I did little, and then they were all home... yeah.. him too..but also, my children are all older, twelve being the youngest, and even though we had 5 here, including our oldest who lives elsewhere but spent christmas here, and a sixteen who lives with us, but is not ours.. I have still done little.
My hubby is just looking for some "good healing" if you know what I mean, we have been married twenty three years, and even though we had four kids, we have never gone six or eight weeks without "it" LOL..
Talk to your doc, find out what he says.. that is my advice.

I will definitely check with my Dr. I go back next week for a check up. I was just curious what activities everyone added on their own. My Dr. wasn't very specific that I remember (drugs) he just gave me weight restrictions. So I wasn't sure about things such as making the bed, some light laundry, picking up toys, etc.

My first minor set back was caused by bending and reaching when we started to put up Christmas decorations/tree on Thanksgiving weekend (I was approximately 2 weeks post op at that point). I didn't lift a darn thing ... but just the little bit of reaching and bending was felt in my body for a couple of days after that. I still have not done laundry yet (other than helping to fold clean clothes) since a co-worker told DH that one of the most painful things for her was lifting the wet clothes out of the washer. He has not yet let me near the washer because of that ... so hey, I'm just taking advantage of it!

When picking up toys, bend at the knees rather than at the waist ... that will help a lot.

I'll be 3 weeks out tomorrow. I do light housework and cooking (although I'm not on my feet much.) I fold laundry, but don't do any heavy lifting. I started driving at 2 weeks out. I haven't really done much outside the house, no shopping yet! After New Years I will start taking my daughter to some of her after school activities. I add activities very slowly and see how my body reacts. I still make sure I rest for several hours each day. It's hard to know. I try to be careful, but then again inactivity breeds inactivity and I have to build up. Just build up slowly and watch and wait to see how you feel the next day.

I was back to work part-time around day 10, was doing laundry by the latter part of week 3 -- and back to full-time stuff by week 4. Week 3 was one of the toughest ones, for me. I felt pretty good but would get really tired if I overdid it. I had to have a second surgery at week 2 to restitch my stitches on my vaginal cuff, but it didn't delay my recovery too much (well, I am still having problems but have been cleared for everything but sex) - I was running again by week 4.

All doctors are different, but most of what I have heard 4 weeks is the common "cleared for everything" with LAVH.

I had my LAVH on Nov.15th. My Dr. said no vacuuming for 6 weeks- I could drive and do 1/2 baskets of laundry after the 1st week. Everything else I could pretty much do-but was told to take it easy-and stop if I had pain or bleeding. I was to take off 4-6 weeks since I am a nurse-who lifts patients and pushes stretchers. also-no baths for 2 weeks-and no sex for 6 weeks.But every Dr.has different limits for their patients-if you have any real worrys- call your Dr.or ask his office nurse.Good Luck.
