I am three weeks post op. I has LAVH, A & P repairs. I was wondering if anyone has experienced chest congestion after surgery. I cough all the time and sound terrible. I do smoke but this is different from any other coughs that I have had.
my doc put me on an inhaler for my first couple of weeks of recovery; i don't smoke or have any breathing problems, but he does it routinely; that inhaler was great!; when the coughing got out of hand...and it often did...2 puffs from the inhaler and i would stop coughing within 15 minutes or so and wouldn't cough for hours; maybe you can mention this to your doc; a call to the doc with a message of your problem can often help you avoid a trip if he can call in a prescription for any meds if you have something he feels is normal within the recovery range...good luck!
I had a cough straight after the op and it lasted about 3/4 weeks then disappeared totally. Think it is part of the anaesthetic. I don't smoke now but used to be a smoker and have a tiny amount of asthma - which is why an inhaler might work. The nurses in the hospital weren't concerned about it and just said it would clear in time. Others didn't have anything at all.
Definitely ask your dr what they think though just in case.
