High Blood Pressure, worse after hyster? take off on heart palipations post...HELP!

Help!
I read the post on heart palipations (sp), and it brought up some more questions.
I was up til 2am last night, because of my heart beating out of my chest, feeling very anxious to boot. I thought I was going to have a heart attack for sure! I found a website that discussed the different BP meds, and side affects. It mentioned palps for calcium channel blockers, but not beta blockers? I'm on Norvasc, which is a calcium channel blocker. My father has been after me for a couple of years to get off them, they're too new (for him) and he doesn't like what he's heard about them.
I planned to go to my doctor to discuss my BP meds tomorrow, and the apparent change in my reaction to them since my hysterectomy (with my chest beating so hard you can SEE it!).
Does anyone have any advice on the best BP meds to try? I'm not wild about the idea of diuretics. My BP problem is purely heredity. No other risk factors. Just bad genes....
The norvasc simply isn't keeping my BP under control anymore. I'm already on 10mg (they come in 5 and 10). I'm reaching here, I'm sure, but if anyone's been in my shoes, I'd surely appreciate any advice... either posted here or emailed to me at jumpingboe@aol.com.
thanks!
Karen

Karen,

My BP, which has been unstable since hysterectomy, responded very badly to black cohosh at the recommended dose, and remained high even after stopping the herb. Although black cohosh often lowers BP, in some people it can have the opposite effect. I was also taking hypericum (SJW), which may have contributed to the situation.

Half-Inderal L.A. (propranolol, a beta-blocker) has helped enormously with the raised BP, tachycardia and palpitations. I felt extremely tired for the first two weeks of treatment but gradually adjusted to the drug, and it's now giving me no problems. I hope medication won't be necessary in the longer-term, but for the moment I can live with it.

Hi,

I started talking 5mg of Norvasc two weeks ago. I think (hope) I have finally adjusted to the medication. I was on Pritor 40mg but it was doing nothing then I had my dose doubled then I finally had the Norvasc addded in addition to the Pritor. You may find you will have to take two different types of BP medications. I think the Pritor works on your kidneys.

My problem is genetic like yours. It becomes quite a challenge getting our hormones and other medications in to balance doesn't it. I also have a thryoid problem.

Good luck with your visit to your Doctor. Do you monitor your blood pressure at home? Taking your blood pressure at home for the Doctor is a good indicator to what is going on.

Hi, Ladies

I'm going to start taking Norvasc tomorrow, too. My BP has been on high, too since I started using tri-est and progesterone cream.
I also have this problem with my right ear, I can hear a lot of noises, like air popping. My doctor told me to do some inhaling because it seems I have some congestion. I tried that and it seems to settle a bit for a week. Last Saturday my doctor told me to increase my hormone dosage and it seems the noises in my ear has come back. I don't know if it has some connection.
Has anybody had the same experience?
Take care.
