Hernia Anyone ?

Hello,

Has anyone had hernia repair a couple of years after hysterectomy?

Just found out I have two incisional hernias, which explains alot of pain I've been having. I see the surgeon
in a few days. I am really scared. I have had four
c sections and a hysterectomy all in the same up and
down scar.

Do people with these kind of hernias have weight
restrictions form then on? I've read that incisional
hernias have a 20% to 45% chance of reoccuring.

Thanks,

Joy

Hernia Anyone ?

I had a femerol hernia 4 months following my LAVH/LSO, I assumed in some way this was related to the surgery and generating me some of my on-going post-operative pain. I had it fixed and have had no problems and no restrictions in at least this department since the hernia repair which was in May of '05. I think that an incisional hernia may be a somewhat different animal, however, I just wanted to offer you some moral support, give you a and assure you that sometimes things can go right (even though I'm still on this road less traveled, the hernia repair took and held real well). Best of luck to you!

Hernia Anyone ?

I had my TAH/BSO on 11/30/2004 due to a diagonsis of Ovarian and Uterine cancer at age 42. I was cut from above my belly button to my pelvic bone (about 16-18 inches). 10 months later on 09/07/2005 I had surgery for the incsional hernia I developed(when you look down at my belly butpon ) to the left side. My gynecological oncologist performed the repaired and did not use mesh just stitched the muscle back together. I was recut in the same incision , this time about 4-5 inches. 11 months after that on 08/07/2006 I had surgery for a double incsional hernia. The previous hernia had recurred and a new one developed. This time my gyn/onc reffered me to a man he called the "hernia king" and mesh was used this time. I was once again recut in the same incision, and this time about 6-8 inches. With each time I am cut it puts more stress on the area making it more vulnerable for recurrence. That was 3 surgies in 20 months whith 6 months of chemo thrown in there in between for good measure. I told my hernia specialisy and my gyn/oncologist that if they have to cut me again I want a zipper put in this time! It is very hard to not just do things, you know lift and tug and such but i realy try to pay attention and be careful because I hope to not have to do this again. Good luck with the repair
