TLH - Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
I am posting because I never saw many stories of this procedure. So here is mine: I have always had heavy and painful periods but this past year they went from bad to worse and visited me more often. I became anemic, worn out and fed up! I was in pain every day from cramping. If I walked I cramped, if I vaccumed I cramped and on most days if I just got out of bed I cramped! I went to my gynocologist and proceeded to have a vaginal sonogram and endometrial biopsy. Ouch ! Nothing showed on the ultrasound but when he performed the biopsy it took over 12cms to reach the wall and it should only be 10cm. So up to this point I was leaning towards an ablation but with this new info and my symptoms my Doc told me that he suspected adenomyosis and that an ablation would not take care of my problems, so on to the hysterectomy. It was a scary realization and ( I know that you hear it ALOT) but the worst part was the waiting. I had my surgery as an outpatient at a surgery center. I went in at 8:00 and was home by 4:00. It was a textbook procedure, everything went but the overies. There was pain but not as bad as I imagined it would be. My stomach was very bruised. I had four small incensions one in my belly button ,one on each side and one in the center of my bikini line. I am three weeks out and I still have some bruising but the incensions are healing nicely. For the first week I was very tired and in some mild pain. The more I did the more the pain increased. The second week I got more energy and had less pain. This week I am doing even better and do not really feel as though I have just had surery but i am working hard at not overdoing it! I do still have some swelly belly which is frustrating because it limits my clothing options. I am emotional. I cry at just about anything and I can get very upset over nothing and I have had some hot flashes, so I am not quite sure if the overies are working yet. With that being said I would do this over again in a heartbeat! I feel better than I have in years! Good Luck to you in your decision and in your journey!
