Healing up is a slow process. I am still taking all the pampering (dh has slacked off a bit...lol) and not getting too much done. Having some pains in my hip and lower pelvic area and back, but other than that, doing fine. Taking 800mg Ibuprophen x6 hrs for inflamation.

Go back to dr on 4th. Hope everything looks fine to him by then.

major setback!

Had surgery (total hysterectomy and bladder reconstruction) on Nov. 30 - stayed in hosp. 5 days - home for ten days when re-hospitalized with 2 infections (December special LOL) one UTI the other turned out to be staph in the incision. Spent five more days in hosp - been home now for 10 days. Did anyone else have the infection issue? How are you feeling? I still have lots of incision discomfort and some pain that seems to be lower in the belly - inside - don't know what to complain to dr. about and what is normal!!

One Month

I had my TAH on 11/30 and spent 2 nights in the hospital. This past week I've starting to feel better. It was so hard not to overdue it during Christmas! I went to the movies last night with my husband and I couldn't believe how sore I am today from just sitting. I started having back pain during the movie and I never have back pain. I have my appt. on 1/3. I can't believe I'm supposed to go back to work in less than 2 weeks. My body just doesn't feel heeled enough. I'm having terrible insomnia and night sweats and have been on premerin (sp?) for about 3 weeks. I did keep my ovaries but the doctor explained that it can take a month or 2 for them to kick back in. Some days I just feel like I should be doing better than I am????

I was doing great--mostly just tiring easily--until the weekend of Christmas. Now I am back on Percocet and waiting for an ultrasound that can't be done until Tuesday. I've spent the last week crying and sitting around. I'm trying really hard not to get depressed.

The doctor thinks there is a fluid collection around the area where they took my left ovary. It hurts to do anything and often hurts doing nothing! I started back to college last fall and have the new semester starting in just over a week so I am hoping that the fluid collection is nothing serious. Has anyone else had this? What happens if there is something? Do I go back to surgery? The doctor said that if the pocket of fluid is close enough to the surface that interventional radiology will just drain it with a needle. That sounds absolutely awful. At least for surgery I was completely unconscious!

My goal was to be pretty much recovered by the time the semester starts Jan 8 but I am worried now that this won't happen. I'm so tired of others having to do for me. It is such a challenge to my identity--not that I am a martyr by any means but it really stinks to sit around waiting for people to bring me a cracker or anything. I love my self-sufficiency!!!

As most of you know, I developed infection and was in the ER on day 7. The infection has sinces passed but I still have a hole. It started at 3cm deep and is now just over 1cm. I was going daily to the treatment centre but now go every-other-day. I have no pain except a pinching underneath the bandages.
I also had thrush from being intubated and a mild bladder infection!
Really though, there was only pain for the 3-4 days I had the incision infection and the rest of the time it's been regular twinges/pinches/pulling.
I was supposed to be back to work already but not until the 9th now which is OK
I see my dr. Jan. 22nd to hopefully be cleared for a tub bath and sex - in that order! hahaha

I am doing okay still sore at times and tired usually by night. Week of christmas was probably overduing it and had some stomache aches. I still have a week out before doctor said I can slowly resuming my normal activities. It has been a nice break but can't wait to start back doing things. Happy New Year to everyone!!!

One month reports

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you are still having at one month. I sincerely hope your healing progresses and that you are all pain free and healed very soon!

I'm a hyster sister just two weeks out, who dropped in to hear what to expect after a couple more weeks of healing. I wonder if your experiences are typical, or if our sisters who are having an easier time of it are just not on these boards anymore at one month?

Thank God, my recovery has been pretty "normal" so far. Just a UTI infection, which the doctor gave me Levaquin for. Other than that, I've just been dealing with swelly belly (I CAN'T believe how big I am), insomnia, some pain (but nothing unbearable or requiring medicine for) and hot flashes. I'm pretty sure I left out some things, but that's pretty much the jist of it. My doctor didn't want to see me until 3 months, but I want to see him at 6 weeks to make sure I'm healing properly. I haven't seen any internal stitches, so I'm assuming they're all dissolving inside. I've been taking it easy, just walking and trying not to overdo it.

Hello...I'm doing pretty well, I think. I had an infection somewhere (even had abdominal & pelvic CT's 2 wks post op to see where it might be - couldn't find it!) but that seems to have resolved. Other than that, the same twinges/pulling/burning everyone else talks about. My biggest issue to deal with has been horrible depression...to me, it has been far worse than any physical pain I've had. Anyway, here's to a fantastic 2007 for ALL of us! "God bless us, every one..." :-)

TAH/BSO/appendectomy...1a1 endometrial adenocarcinoma...no further treatment!
