length of hospital stay

I am scheduled for January 23, what is the normal length of stay in the hospital?

Hi Annieotis,
I think the length of stay is closely related to the type of procedure you will have. I had a TAH on 12/11, and was discharged the next day. I was ready to go home since everything was working on its own. Try giving your doctor or nurse a call. I'm sure they get this very question all the time. Take care!

I was planned for a Lap hyst and the Dr said to stay in for two days. It ended up being a TAH, so the Dr extended my stay right off the bat and said 3 days. Everything was working and I was off pain meds by the next day, He still kept me in for a full 3 days.

A co-worker at my office had a lap done at the day surgery center. I think that is just nuts myself.

Good luck

Hi Annieotis!

I am scheduled for the same day as you! I'm having a TVH, and my doctor told me 2 - 3 days. Am hoping to learn more at the pre-op Jan 10th. Say hello to PA for me, I grew up there, north of you!

I am scheduled for a LAVH and was told just one over-night at least. My surgery is on a Thursday and I will probably be home by Friday afternoon sometime, that is if all goes well! My doc said that if I had a TAH, I would be in for 4 days.

3 nights for TAH. It would have been 2 but I got a round of diarrhea the staff wanted to "keep and eye on" before I left because the Norwalk Virus had already caused 3 units to close at the hospital.

I am scheduled for LSH on 1/25 and was told 24 hours if all goes well. Of course was also told that could be converted to a TAH and the stay would be longer for that.

I had a LAVH in the morning and went home the next afternoon. The hospital nurse at the pre-op phone call had said to count on at least 2 nights, and maybe longer.

Everything was working ok, so I only stayed 1 night. And, yes, it is much better to be at home, I felt much better once I got home!
