Pain meds

I ran out of pain meds. I am not sure if i should call dr and ask for more or just try to suffer it out. I have had to take them since November as pain was horrible. Now it is January and my surgery was two weeks ago, does anyone else still need pain meds or am i just being a baby. I am usually a very strong women, and I can manage pain well, but this is just to painful to deal with. I also dont want my dr. to think I am getting addicted to pain meds. I actually hate them, I am strong minded and hate anything taking control of me, but the pain is more controling then the meds. I have tried the 800m or IBP they gave me, but it does not work. I was supposed to have a tvh, but my ovaries were so far up that my dr. could only get one as the bleeding was too bad to get the other and my Blood pressure dropped really low. I was in recovery for over 3 hours while they worked on getting my blood pressure back up. Does anyone think this may be the reason for all the pain i still have? Thanks for your thoughts on this.

Call your dr. and talk this through. You can't heal if you are in pain. If he/she doesn't want you to have more of the narcotic pain pills - then they can suggest what you can use to get relief from the pain.

People who take pain meds when they are in pain are much less likely to become addicted - it has something to do with how the meds are absorbed by the body. I have been through this with migraine headaches - so I understand your hesitation to call - but you should go ahead - you might be surprised by what they say.

Good Luck!

Pain meds

All I can do is speak for myself... At two weeks post-op, I was still alternating vicodin and 600 mg. ibuprofen 'round the clock. My GP was very good about refilling prescriptions for pain relief for six weeks after my surgery. (I had a hip-to-hip incision which was left open, however.)

Your body can't heal as well if you are in pain. My advice would be to call the doctor and ask what you should do about your pain. Most likely, you'll get good suggestions, and I would hope a refill on your pain meds if needed.

We all heal at different rates and have different tolerance to pain. You're not being a baby by acknowledging your discomfort.

to you. Hope this helps.

Maybe you could ask him for something that is non-narcartic.

I think that you are afraid to ask because you don't want to appear wimpy. That is my problem, too.

I am going on 7 weeks post op. I still require pain meds. My last dr visit was on 4th and he prescribed for me Vicroprofen, since the Percocet 5's (lowest dose) were not providing enough relief.

Pain hinders your body from healing. You need to be comfortable. Ask your dr and you shall recieve.

Hope this helps.

I agree to call your doctor and discuss how to manage the pain. Also ask if there could be anything causing the pain that s/he needs to check. To answer your question, my impression from these boards is that most of us at your stage, two weeks, use pain medication and that should seem perfectly normal to your doctor. But regardless, I would always encourage you to call the doctor about a problem with your recovery. That's what they're there for!

Hope you're feeling better soon!

Pain meds

I'm at four weeks and I still need my painkillers occasionally. I don't think there is anything wrong with asking your doc for more at two weeks.

If you still need them, it doens't hurt to ask. They might say no, they might want to see you or they might just call something in for you.

I know when I called for a refill I felt like a failure or something. I hated calling but you know what? I would have toughed it out and probably been fine....and for what? I was still in pain and I was seeking relief.

You might explain you have tried the Moltrin and it just isn't enough. I found even after I was off them in the day, sometimes at the end of the day, I still needed one. Maybe this is the same for you?

Good luck,

Julie

Pain meds

My doc gave me a refill on mine at 3 weeks. I only take it when I need it. I had something pull or pop loose yesterday and have had some pretty bad pain (normally a very high thresh-hold). When she called me back today (she was on call), she told me I was beyond doing anything other than causing discomfort for myself. She ASKED if I needed anymore pain meds, then told me that if I was still in pain to come in to her office tomorrow. So, they're right...if you need them, call and get them. You can't possible heal efficiently and correctly if you're in constant pain.

I hope you feel better soon.

Hugs, Prayers, and Luck,
Char
