Question - Oophorectomy Recovery Oophorectomy Recovery

I just had my left ovary removed 1/9/07 by laporoscopy. I see my dr. tomorrow but am wondering what the restrictions are? I had a tvh,a/p repair in 2003 for uterine proplapse, rectocele & cystocele. For the past year my legs & hips have ached so bad. I hope removal of the ovary will help. How long should I stay home & try to recover?

Oophorectomy Recovery

I'm not sure how long you should stay home and recover; that's really something you should ask your doctor.

However, I strongly recommend that you avoid lifting anything over 10 pounds for the next few weeks. And avoid anything over 20 for at least 4 or so weeks.

Try to walk a bit each day, but avoid major exercise until your doctor allows you.

Rest, rest, rest. Recline back, put your feet up, and do nothing more exhausting than lifting a book/picking up a remote/typing on a computer/etc.

Oophorectomy Recovery

Everyone is different, your recovery time can depend on how much work your doctor did and how well your body recovers. Some take longer than others. As you're seeing your doctor tomorrow, that is a good question to ask him/her.

Best wishes on your way to a healthy and speedy recovery.

Oophorectomy Recovery

I am anxious to hear what your doctor recommends. I am having my remaining right ovary removed in a few weeks and when I asked my doctor how much time I should request off from work and he said you are entitled to 6 weeks. I was shocked as I had 6 weeks for abdominal hyster. and this is only laproscopic. I said I thought 2 weeks and his reply was I think you should stay home at least 4 but preferably 6 weeks. I don't know if it has anything to do with that I am having some bladder work done at the same time. Can you share any info on laproscopic surgery? I am nervous because it is new to me. I had an idea what to expect from abdominal hysterectomy because it was the same type of incision as my csections. How long were you in the hospital, what was it like when you came home, how did you feel, what could you do or not do etc.. Thanks and good luck at your doctors appointment.

Wink - Oophorectomy Recovery Oophorectomy Recovery

I just got back from the doctor, I am a little annoyed. First he didn't remember me and what was done and told me I had a dermoid? Then he corrected himself and said I only had cysts. I asked if my fallopian tube was removed. Both my tube and ovary were removed. He said it will take a while to realize if this is going to cure my pain or not. As for restrictrictions, he said I didn't have any....I asked about lifting, he said nothing over 20 lbs! and working is okay as I have a desk job. I think I still won't lift anything or go to work for another week at least. It has only been 6 days. I also had a cystoscopy on my bladder, the biopsy revealed chronic cystitis. I had a tvt (sling to hold bladder in place) when I had my hysterctomy 3 years ago. They did also find adhesions to my bladder, vagina & sigmoid colon that were removed. My urologist seems to feel I need longer to recover and has been more helpful. The surgery was done outpatient and went remarkably well. I was home in about 4 hours and recovery has been pretty easy. The thing that seem to hurt the most was my Bladder! (They scraped the scarring on the lining and did a biopsy). I have 3 small incicions. belly button, just below & right at pubic hairline. They haven't bothered me. Feel a little pulling but not pain. The releasing of gas from my body was a bit uncomfortable but other than that I feel pretty good. It was hard to bend & sit up at first but I am up and about, still don't feel up to par quite yet. The meds still make me sleepy. I have also been experiencing some hot flashes & moodiness but hopefully that will subside. I hope this info helps mindfulness. Thank you for your responses. I think I will wait another week and just kind of take it easy.My husband suggested another week of rest so if he is going to take care of everything I am going to take advantage of it!!!
