Weight limits and shopping carts

I am 7 weeks out today and am still not supposed to lift more than 10 lbs or push a shopping cart but today I went shopping all by myself , picked up more than three or four items, and followed my Dr's orders.

I used the electric cart at the grocery store. It was great and probably more useful for someone like me who can't lift vs. someone who can't walk. If something was too high for me to reach I could just stand up and get what I wanted. It was great! I am going to be on the weight restriction for a while more, but now I can go by myself. I did time the trip so my husband would be coming home shortly after I got home so he could unload the groceries from the back of my car.

Weight limits and shopping carts

You go girl! I learned my lesson on Saturday I went to Target and did not even think about the cart pushing. Needless to say I paid for it Saturday night, Sunday and into Monday with pain. I won't forget that anytime soon. Unfortunatly I live alone and my bf lives in another town 2-1/2 hours away so he can not help me drag them up my stair to the apt. I took up the fridge stuff and left the rest in the car for my brother the next day.

Weight limits and shopping carts

I'm 7 weeks tomorrow!
I cannot lift over 12lbs until at least March. My dr. never said anything about the shopping carts but I had restricted myself on those for about the first month --- and dh is great about getting a "good one"

Weight limits and shopping carts

I am 9 weeks out today. I still use the cart, especially at Walmart. I am fortunate that I have two teens that can unload the groceries and put them away.

Weight limits and shopping carts

I just had my four week check today and the doctor told me no lifting for two more months! And that includes pushing and pulling and he specifically said shopping carts!

He said it takes ninety days from surgery for stomach muscles to reach ninety percent healed and they never heal that last ten percent. Isn't that depressing?

Weight limits and shopping carts

Wow I did not know that! I am going to have to ask my doctor when I can go back to doing some exercise. I was doing beginners dvd by Dr. Oz "You on a Diet, Manage you waist" and was getting pretty good at it before the surgery. I also bought a beginner yoga kit. Not sure when I will be able to start on those. I want to buy a treadmill if I can figure where to put it in my apt since I don't think I will be able to move it around.

Weight limits and shopping carts

I work for a computer company and lift computers off and on all day.. My doctor told me I could go back to work at 4 weeks and lift. But from what I have read here, I'm telling them I can't lift for at least 8 weeks.. I do not want to hurt myself as the pay isn't worth it!! Plus I'm taking a 5 week off.. I have to email my boss on that one. They have someone doing my job so why rush back to work....
It's amazing the different restrictions each doctor prescribes... I'm glad I found this site!!!

Been doing it - didn't know I shouldn't

Had total hysterectomy, ovaries & tubes, lymphnodes, and gallbladder out on Dec. 14th. I've been good about not lifting anythihng heavy, but have been pushing ths shopping cart for a couple weeks. I like having it to lean on while I walk. Had no idea I was doing a no-no, but both my oncologist and local gynocologist think I'm healing really well. I'll have to ask next visit. Yikes!

Weight limits and shopping carts

I never had any restrictions on pushing a shopping cart. Can't say I was out there until about 3 1/2 weeks anyway...and didn't get all that much..I did like having it to lean on! I'm 13 weeks now...and I'm still not lifting very heavy things. I was one of the lucky ones to have NO bleeding at all after surgery beyond a dribble the first and second day....and I sure don't want to start bleeding now! I feel too good to take a step backwards....This site is wonderful in the amount of information we receive..sure glad I found it! I recommend it to everyone...told my doc about it..he'd never heard of it!! Hope he is recommending it! Hugs to all of you wonderful sisters!

JudeD, that is so interesting what your doctor said. It's curious why some doctors say or don't say what not to do. From my excursion to Walmart yesterday w/pushing a shopping cart, I can honestly say I don't feel that bad today. But, I will definetly grill my dr. when I go back next week and see if he suggests/informs me of restrictions.
