I had a TAH in May 2005. I have to do exercises for back ache. I lie on my back with my feet tucked under my bottom with legs together. I have to move both knees together towards the floor. (I hope this paints a clear picture!). Everytime I go to either side I have pain where my ovaries should have been. Is this normal after such a long time?

Hi roxyviva
Just wondering here if you only have the pain when you exercise? It's hard to say what might be causing your discomfort. There can be scar tissue pulling that might cause pain, but as far as healing goes you should be healed from your surgery.
I had a lot of trouble getting back into exercise without pain. My dr ended up sending me to a physical therapist for some help with it. She had me do a lot of stretching at first. I was so tight I could hardly do a regular workout without pain.
Have you asked your dr about it? If you only hurt when you exercise you may be needing to stretch those muscles to have full use of your abs without pain. I would suggest you ask a dr about it just to be sure you aren't doing something that will cause harm and to find out if there is something where your ovaries used to be that could be causing this.

I think the movement you describe is what I do to stretch out my back if it is bothering me ( also turn my upperbody and arms to the opposite site my knees are pointing). At 16 months, I don't feel any pain only comfort (for my back) from doing it.

I would definietly ask your doctor about it.

Take care.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. The pain is in the areas where my ovaries were - on either side. I have an appointment with my consultant early next week - will keep you posted. Regards.
