Hi, I'm 2 weeks post as of today and I still have a sore stomach. Incision actually feels fine, it's my stomach above it that is sore. I am also still swollen. When I read posts of women on treadmills and doing alot of walking, I wonder how that can be done at this point. I don't think I would be able to do it! I have spoken with a few friends and they tell me not to expect to see a reduction in the soreness and swelling for approximately 3-4 weeks post op.

I was thinking the same thing Dangie. The longest walk that I did was about 1/2 mile total. Took a wonderful walk to the beach, but I made sure that I bundled up, and brought my cell phone with me, since it was the middle of the afternoon, and I was by myself. I made it with no problems!!! I couldn't imagine doing much more than that.
Spoke with my regular gyno today (had my surgery done by a specialist due to having a TAH, right ovary removed for a 4cm chocolate cysts with endometriosis adhesions, and stage 0 BC, DCIS). She said that it sounds like things are going great, and if it was up to her, I will be having a few limitations lifted. Hoping to be able to drive, so I can get to the local mall, and do some inside walking. They want me to be totally off of pain killers, but I've been taking one darvocet a night to help me get comfortable in bed.
to all of my fellow sisters!!!!

I go for my two week post op checkup today. Just started bleeding today and I have such a sore and bloated belly. I haven't been able to sleep at all. I've had a hard two weeks. The pain is so uncomfortable in my lower abdomen. When I take pain meds, they make me hyper and I can't sleep and if I do doze off, I have the worst nightmares. I was screaming help me help me help me, STOP STOP STOP in my sleep last night and my husband had to wake me up because he was scared. I haven't slept good for these reasons since the surgery. I read where some ladies still need their afternoon naps, and I am wondering when will I get one at all. Achy Achy. I hope my Dr. can help me with this today. Mentally, I want to jump up and go back to doing things I used to do, but physically, I can't. I know I am rushing my healing. Bad patient I am. If the pain meds would just knock me out then I would be ok. But I can't sleep when I take them for hyperness or night mares.

Odd

tamiami,

I understand everything you said!! I have with wierd burning thing right in the center of my abdomen inside, no one has told me why.
I went outside this morning, walked to the barn and corrals and messed with the horses a while, then walked about a mile. I am lots happier now and I'm sure it is a lot healthier.

Just don't over-tire yourself. Surely the weather is nice enough to get out and walk a little.

Every one take care and chin up.

Doctor gave me a pelvic exam and said the incision looked and felt fine. She cannot understand where my pain is coming from. According to her, I should be feeling pretty good right now. She scheduled me an abdominal CAT scan for tomorrow to make sure I don't have a blood clot or some obstruction to my bowels, bladder, or even damage to my kidneys....So I will know more tomorrow after the scan. She gave me something to help me sleep. I'll give that a shot.

Concetta,
Sounds like you had a pretty good visit. Hope you are able to get some good sleep tonight as that will help with your healing. Wishing you well on your CAT scan tomorrow, and I am glad to hear she ordered one to rule out any issues. Let us know how it goes.
Good luck and happy healing!

work too soon

I am scheduled for an 11-6 meeting on Monday, which they want me onsite for. I said no way. Work is 50 miles from my house, and there's no way that I'm going to attempt that type of commute two weeks after surgery.

I am a computer programmer, and we are short staffed right now. I actually worked four hours yesterday, and I have a few meetings today, that they will be calling me for today. I'm lucky that my job is not physically demanding, but I'm nervous. I had an TAH, and my belly swells about an hour after I get up.

I consider myself extremely lucky that I've had such a good recovery up to this point, after the first week from hell, but I realize that going back next week, even if it is from my living room will be slightly insane, but it's what I have to do to keep the income flowing, and to protect my job. We have had some bad layoffs, and we're running short staffed as it is! ARGH....
I also had a TAH and I am on my third week of recovery. I found it very tiring and my back hurt realy bad even just sitting in front of the computer for a short period of time. The only thing that helps me is instead of sitting in an office chair, I sit in a beach chair. Try that if you find it too hard on a regular chair.

it could be the pain killer you are taking. I experienced it when I changed from morphin to Tylenol 3 on my first week in the hospital. I had no problem with morphin but as my pain level reduced they remove the pump and put me on Tylenol 3. It worked wonderful for reducing pain, but I couldn't sleep for 2 days. I changed meds after that, and I am just fine.
Hope you feel better soon.

I really like the idea of sitting in a beach chair at work. It might be fun to bring all my beach stuff, play ocean music, and ask my cube-mate for a margarita.

Great idea, but who wants to wait to go back to work for a margarita!!!! I have a bit of a set back today. I've been doing great the last 2 1/2 weeks, but this morning when I was changing out of my night shirt, I noticed a dry yellowish-reddish stain where my scar is, and when I went to the bathroom to wash up, I noticed part of the incision is open, and there's some yellowish stuff coming out. I have my two week check up with the doctor this afternoon, but called the office anyway, Sounds like there's an infection going on down there. It was a bit pink the other day, but wasn't hot, in fact the pink started to fade a little bit, so I wasn't to overly concerned. Hopefully I'll just need some antibiotics, and possibly a couple of stitches to close it up again. I still have the steristrips there from my visit last week. It seems like we've all been taking two steps forward, and one step backwards.
Hope everybody else is healing OK.
