Antibiotics ok before hyst. surgery?

I developed a cyst or injury in my thumb and a GP put me on antibiotics the other day because of swelling and pain. She's aware I'm having the LSH on Monday and assured me it's ok. I told her I couldn't take the Naproxen she wanted me on because of blood thinning, but was approved for Extra Strength Tylenol instead. I plan on letting the hospital know about the antibiotics, but do you think that will postpone the surgery?

(Please, oh please, say no)

I think you should definitely call your doctor doing the surgery and ask him about the meds and let him make that call as to what is okay and what is not.

Antibiotics ok before hyst. surgery?

Calling your dr is a good idea.
I was put on antibiotics by my gyn a week before my surgery. Your surgeon is the one to make the decision for you though.

Best wishes, please keep us updated on what you learn.

Antibiotics ok before hyst. surgery?

I was going through a sinus thing and didn't want sneezing, coughing or anything of that nature during my recovery so off to my primary I went. She gave me zithro which is a five day antibiotic. It's actually good for the antibiotic to be in your system. Just another level of protection.

Thanks for the replies. I tried calling the docs office and they were closed. The operating room nurse called a little while ago to go over whatever pre-op tests I may need and I asked her about the antibiotics. She said they are definitely ok. They only worry about any possible bloodthinners. She mentioned she had the exact same procedure done and how wonderful she feels afterward. I can't wait!
