TVH to be. Chicken Little now! *smile*
Hello, I am 40 and have heavy monthlies for the last year to the point of confinement to the house 2 days of every cycle! I had a D&C in July 06 but it didn't do anything. My doc at the time didn't tell me about the option of having the 'ballon therapy/ablation" which furiates me. However.... I switched docs & now my uterus is very enlarged so I have opted against the ablation since there is a 30% failure it will not heat to temp needed in time needed and will do no good. I'm against the synthetics and was going to try the Mirena but when all is said and done I'd still have this big uterus which is visible and annoying. I have a TVH scheduled 2/26 and am nervous as to what to expect pain and recovery wise. My uterus is also very large (11) so I'm curious if anyone else has had a TVH with a large uterus? Cervix will also be removed and I've heard things about that shortening ...ugh... the castle gate .... to the extent it will be painful or permantly a prob. Anyone have probs with that following surgery? What should I expect after surgery? Will I feel pain in my abdomen even thought it's TVH? Will it hurt to walk? Any info welcomed!
Bok! Bok! (that's thank you in chicken talk! )

Hi there! Being scared is normal! Trust me, I know. I had a TVH on the 16th and let me tell you, I have had very little problems with mine. I went in the morning of the 16th, surgery was at 7:30, only took a little over an hour. I was moved to recovery (or so my DH says) but woke up in my own room. Sore? Yes a little. My nurses were great about giving me a demoral cocktail shot about every 3 hours. The next morning they removed my catheter, I was able to go to the bathroom on my own and thought it would hurt, it didn't. I was on my way home by 1pm on the 17th. I'm not going to lie to you, you will be sore, you will have some pain, but that's normal...you're having MAJOR surgery. I felt so good 2 days after my surgery I was up doing laundry...DO NOT DO THIS!..I paid for it later. The advise that I can give you is, drink lots of water...my nurses advised me to drink 2 glasses of cranberry juice so my bladder wouldn't get an infection, walk and take care of yourself. Housework and laundry will wait. If you ever need to talk or have any questions, please feel free to pm me or email me.

TVH to be. Chicken Little now! *smile*
Hi
I have at least a 12 weeks size uterus. I was to have the Nova Sure proccedure on 12-28, I woke up with just a D&C, The machine has safety limits and when it was filled with the gas it would not work. It was also shaped like a heart, it could either be a septum or a fibroid is pressing right in the middle. He guessing it's at least 2 pounds in weight. All my fibroids are in the mucle wall.
On 1-8 I saw my dr and told him I wanted it out. I am going to have TAH since my 2 C sections I have a lot of scar adhesions that he could see were stuck to the bladder. I thought I wanted my cervix, but now I will let it go. I am afraid I will still bleed.
Pre-op on Tuesday! Surgery Thursday!

I had a TVH and the only things that really bothered me were the cath coming out and the packing they put in there, it was a mile long, thought it would never get out. I got to eat a couple hours after I woke up. The next morning i got to take a shower and left at noon. The only thing that bothered me at home was the gas.....Hot tea worked wonders on that and doing laps around the house. Didn't really have any pain at all. Didn't have any meds from the time I woke up, didn't take any at home either. Stairs were one at a time for a few weeks, but got better over time. I got to drive at 2 weeks. Slept on my stomach after a week. My Doc. said no baths or swimming for 6 weeks and no lifting over 10 pounds for 6 weeks. Some doc.'s are different on these limits so make sure and ask your doc what is best for you. I really felt great, hope everything goes smooth for you also. Good Luck and hope this helps you some.
Take care!!!

TinyGiraffe, that very same thing happened to me last month too. I went in for D&C, and the Ablation she wasn't able to do the Ablation cause the size of my uterus. I'm having TAH, due to 3 C-secs here. You will be going to the castle when I'm already there. I will be looking for your posts in post op after you get home. Good luck with your surgery.

Good luck! I'll be thinking of you!
After reading about others that have had the ablation, it seems it does not always work. I am sure if I had had one it would not have made a difference. Since all mine are in the wall.
I have wondered from not having the ablation, we are having this proceedure because our uterus is not normal, I don't know why they did not think that all uterus are not the same little size.
When I was 4 weeks pregnant with my son is was already 12 week size..they said Oh maybe your having twins, I said no it's just big...yep just one. He will be 9 on Sunday. They should have look at the uterus I am sure it would have had an expiration date 2-1-07. I wish they could have taken it out then and saved me the trouble of going back in for it now LOL.

See that is exactly like me, I always got really big quick with my kids. I had the same question asked to me too with my oldest, are you having twins. I would tell them no, then they would ask if I was sure. My oldest will be 9 in March. Sounds like you and I have almost the same problems going on.

Tgold777,
Yes they put this long strand of gauze up in there and mine stayed in til the next morning along with the cath. Wasn't very comfy when they pulled it out. I also had air cushion things on my legs with surgical socks. They are kinda tight and a little itchy. Had to keep them on also til the next morning, was so glad to get them off. I hope this helps answer some of your questions, feel free to pm me if you have any more questions.
Have a great day!!!!!!!
