Bowel Prep-Crazy idea.

So today on my 20th run to target I got the crazy idea bo buy stool softners, which I started today, and laxiatives, which I am going to take on Saturday and Sunday. I thought that if I could get things started maybe Monday's prep will not be so bad. Am I crazy for thinking this

I don't know if its neccessary. My experience with bowel preps is that they will blow anything out. It pulls water into your bowel and turns everything to liquid. I wouldn't worry about stool softners.

Please be careful. I don't think that you should do anything extra without first checking with your dr. If you overdo it, it could cause dehydration or other complications that could result in a rescheduling of your suegery. It's very important to follow your drs orders exactly as ordered.

Please don't do anything more or less without getting it approved by your dr first - your health is worth it.

I have been taking my flax seed pills diligently. I thought the same thing. But I am drinking extra water.

I thought of that the other day when I did my bowel prep and it was suggested that I don't do it. The prep directed should be more than enough. Glad I listened, the "stuff" kept me busy enough without any added assistance. Just follow the doctors orders and you should be fine. Busy, but fine.

Good luck to you.

Has your Dr. OKed the flax seed? Some supplements (I don't know about flax seed) can have side effects that can cause problems during surgery. My Dr. had me stop taking mine 2 weeks before surgery. I even had to stop taking my migraine meds 5 days before surgery.

Like mentioned, only do what your Dr has ordered. Your Dr is expecting you to follow his advice and is prepared to take care of you based on you following directions.

As stated in other replies don't do anything without your doctor's permission. They know what their doing and you should not need to do anything more. My surgery is the day after yours. Lots of luck.

I mentioned the Flax seed at the Pre-Op appointment. She ok'd it. It doesn't thin the blood and at least keeps me "regular."

I will call and ask again to make sure.
