Post Mesh Removal Exhaustion

This is my fourth recuperation from surgery in the past 2 years. This surgery was to remove nearly all the mesh used in the anterior and posterior repair. Can you tell me why I am more exhausted after this surgery when this was less invasive than some of the others? I am allowed to stand for 1-2 hours a day so I assume slow walking is ok. I went to the craft store today to find ribbon for some shower favors I'm making. I was gone for 1 hour. When I returned I could barely walk anymore without feeling like I was going to drop. I'm also still having trouble with dizziness and being fuzzy headed and I haven't used any pain medication since the day after discharge more than 2 weeks ago. Can it still be from anesthesia? I was given the exact same anesthesia meds as my surgery 3 months ago and never felt like this. I returned to work at 2 weeks post-op the last time and never experienced any of these symptoms. Any insight?

Maybe it is accumulation of body stress...... you have been through an awful lot lately and it is probably taking its toll now after 4 surgeries.Make sure you go easy and don't even think of going back to work until you feel better.

Michelle, have you been on more bedrest than you were for your other surgeries? I have read that when you are, you tend to be MORE exhausted once you are up and moving around than those who get more exercise. Your body gets used to not moving around and it doesn't like it when you do. When you've been sitting or lying down for long periods of time and then you change position, you can get dizzy and light-headed even when you are healthy. When you've had surgery or some other shock to your body, I imagine the dizziness and light-headedness could be even greater.

Having said that, are you keeping well-hydrated and eating right? Just being even slightly dehydrated can cause some of those same symptoms as can not eating enough (or eating junky stuff). I even had a few of those symptoms when my hypothyroid condition was first dx-ed years ago. Dizziness can have its roots in so many different things. Sending S and hoping you figure it out ASAP........

This is your conscience speaking - ummm - please slow down and let your body heal. Please? My doctor would be scolding you right now, he didn't want me to do anything for 6 weeks, just stay around the house, no cleaning, cooking, driving - nothing - he absolutely wouldn't have let me stand for 1 to 2 hours - he said absolutely no standing in one place at all. The only thing I did for 6 weeks was go to the doctor and go to dinner (door to door service) - that's it. Let those stitches heal. Take it easy on your trip. Just lay around and heal. Hugs.

My final mesh removal surgery wiped me out more than the 4 prior surgeries. I don't know why but I think it has to do with your body having been through so much all ready.

It got much better about 4 weeks post-surgery. Try to enjoy the downtime and let yourself heal. You'll finally be better in no time.

Take care,

Linda

Michelle,
I have a feeling that 4 surgeries have taken a toll and you just need to take it easy. Your body is telling you this. It's a bummer to have to put your life on hold and concentrate on healing--but once you have healed, you can concentrate on getting your life back.

All of the anxiety could be taking its toll also. I know that when I am going though anxiety, I get more tired. For example--I am tired now, just thinking about what's to come for me on Febr 5. I can't get anything done, even though I know I have to get the house cleaned and everything organized.

Please take care of yourself!

I relate to Cherlytwin, the emotional stuff gets me far worse than anything else. Top that with multiple surgeries and how could you not be exhausted? I know you are watching for every possible sign of a problem (as I will be) and your body has quietly been busy rejecting everything 24/7 for quite some time. That takes all kind of energy away from you. Now you are healing and you would be the FIRST person to tell one of us to SLOW DOWN and rest and stay off your feet. We won't take no for an answer, will we girls?

Know what else? Just your description of what you go through with your bowels twice a day--every day--exhausts me reading about it. I can't imagine living through each agonizing moment of it. Michelle, THAT is exhausting in and of itself. Think several hours a day of that might just be affecting you a bit??
REST, already....

Michelle,

Ditto all the wise things written above. And throw in lotsa s. You poor girl!

Do you know if you lost much blood during your surgery? My doc said that these mesh removal surgeries can be pretty bloody. Could you be anemic? That's probably a long shot, but I'm just trying to think of any other reasons you could be feeling this way.

I imagine that you were pretty depleted before going in to this last surgery. I think you are the only one here not surprised by how you're feeling!

Thank you all for your support. You are my "core group" of Hystersisters friends and I love you for it. I am slowly improving everyday. I am still having BM trouble and since I am on vacation in Florida I'm not eating quite like I normally do so it has thrown me off. I have my Colace with me but find I am straining a lot more and have more swelling. I can actually now feel the sutures at the opening of the vagina and have started to lose a few sutures. Thankfully no bleeding or discharge so I think all is still well.Just feels like burning all the time. I am not doing anything strenuous though I am walking more than I was at home. I promise to be careful and take it easy.

(PS The tornado missed us by a slim 10 miles and I woke just as it hit LadyLake at 3:15. The thunder, lightening and wind was terrifying. Felt like I was in the movie Twister. Please say a prayer for those whose houses were destroyed. We went by there yesterday on the way out to dinner and it was devastating!!!)
