Progesterone good or bad for hair

I am very confused about progesterone being good or bad for hair. I read a post on the wiley protocol stating that progesterone build up in the body can cause hair loss. All the research I did before using it, stated that it helps with hair loss and regrowth. Has anyone else found this to be the case? I have been using a large dose for a couple of years and now wonder if I need to back off or stop using all together.
I just had a consultation with a compound pharmacist and waiting for him to get my blood results. I told my GYN the other day that I wish I hadn't had my surgery and she said she has never had someone say that to her. I find that so hard to believe when I see so many women on this website with problems. She gave me a perscription for effexor (which I didn't have filled) and when I looked into the side effects, it listed hair loss. I told her that was the cause of my depression. What was she thinking??????

Progesterone good or bad for hair

I may be having difficulty finding balance but I never regret having my hyst done. Even with hormonal annoyances I am so much healthier than I was before...sheesh, talk about imbalance I hope you can find balance soon and not regret your hyst

In my personal experience, estrogen dominance causes hairloss. When I was on estrogen alone my hair was falling out. When I added the progesterone it stopped falling out. If I get a little lax on using it I start noticing hair in the drain almost immediately and will usually stop within a few days after I start using the progesterone cream religiously. Atleast that is how it works for me

Progesterone good or bad for hair

Hi Sandiec,
I believe that progesterone has contributed to my hairloss. I never had any problems with hair until I started on compounded progesterone. I am one of those women who has never felt good on any hormones. Right now I have stopped my compounded hormones because I have an itch in my left nipple and the doctor told me to stop the hormone until I get the results back from the mammogram. They can't get me in until Feb. 20th. In the last two years on this particular hormone regime with progesterone added I have felt terrilbe and have developed so many different sx that I never had before. I kept believing the doctor when she said that when my progesterone level was high enough I would feel great. When it got to the level she wanted it to be I felt worse than when I first started them. My family doctor never wanted me to take them in the first place. He felt it was making my thyroid sx worse. Sorry to ramble as today hasn't been a good day with this strange itching. Hope you find a hormone that works for you.
Trish M.
