Chronic Fatigue due to anemia

I have been suffering from heavy prolonged bleeding and although I'm taking cyclocaprin to stop the bleeding my ferritin levels are dropping monthly. I'm taking double iron pills, eating iron rich foods but once my period hits I'm right back to step one. Actually each month feels like one step forward, two steps backwards which translates into getting progressively more tired. Just getting dressed and making my bed is major. I just found out that I have to wait for five more months until I can have my surgery.
Does anyone else have this, and how did you cope? I'm not sure how much longer I can take this.

Chronic Fatigue due to anemia

Yes, I've been there. I had to wait a few months before my surgery too. I prayed a lot, hoping that my hemoglobin would be up enough for surgery. I had to stop exercising because it caused more bleeding. I know that it benefits me, but I had to make a trade. I was also taking 2-325mg of iron with 18mg in my multivitamin daily along with chosing iron rich foods. It took about 6 months for my hemoglobin to go from 7 to 12. The month before my surgery it started dropping. It was 11 for my surgery, but my surgeon said that was ok. I once asked my primary care physician what happens when the body rejects the man-made iron. Maybe they can give you iron injections and your body will hold onto that more then the pills. A hematologist is better at finding solutions then your primary.

Many 's to you and good luck!

Chronic Fatigue due to anemia

I am 36 and have anemia (8) and have heavy periods. All the docs. think it is due to my cycle. I am scheduled to get the NovaSure on 2/6. I started receiving iron infusions this week. (I was having heart palbatations and shortness of breath.) They said the infusions will going into affect after I get my 2nd of 3. In the meantime I have been reading about people who got the NovaSure and am scared it will not work out. My cousin (35) had it a year ago and said a band-aid (LOL)is all she needs each cycle.

Fighting anemia

Before my hysterectomy, I had 3 months' Lupron treatment to shrink the fibroids and stop the bleeding. My iron was up to normal by my surgery. Of course, Lupron has other side effects as well.

Chronic Fatigue due to anemia

My doc had me taking iron 3x daily before my surgery. Why the long wait for surgery? I had the option of when to have mine and I chose to wait but I was caring for my sister, who was dying of cancer.

Chronic Fatigue due to anemia

It sounds crazy, but take two Flinstones chewable vitamins with iron a day. Don't go for the generic brand, they don't work as well. I really feel a difference. My rheumatologist told me to take them, as I have horrible fatigue with rheumatoid arthritis (a normal side effect to pain he says) and along with that, I flood and am enemic. When I feel my lowest, I try to do some exercise and get my heart moving, release a few endorphins. It really helps. Best of luck, it can't hurt!
