How fast can fibroids grow?

Hi everyone. I'm new here, but I think this is great and so helpful. I had an ovary and tube removed 11 years ago due to endo and now I have been diagnosed with endo again and fibroids. I had an ultrasound in April and had numerous fibroids at that time and was told that the largest was about the size of a walnut. I have been feeling increasing tiredness and increasing pain and fullness in my lower abdomin. How fast can a fibroid increase in size? I am scheduled for another appointment with my Dr and was told that I needed a colonoscopy before surgery is scheduled. The surgery will probably be scheduled in mid summer. I hope they don't get too much larger before then. Any thoughts?

fibroids!!!

My only advice is to NOT take hormones, either natural or synthetic if you can possibly avoid it. There is just too much evidence, both personal and others, that hormones DO cause firbroids to grow. Doctors will tell you that they're NOT SUPPOSED TO, but it just "aint so".....
Maybe you can buy a little time that way. If you have to take them then I'd have my surgery as soon as they'll do it and get them out before they get any larger....Just my opinion.

Hope everything works out well for you

Hugs,

How fast can fibroids grow?

Thanks Sheliac !!

I'm not taking anything at all right now. Just waiting for my appointment on the 21st of June with my PCP for a referral to get the colonoscopy and then I have to get precertified through the insurance company for the surgery to be scheduled. Just waiting, waiting and more waiting.
Thanks again.

How fast can fibroids grow?

Hi Wendy Sue, and welcome!

I had enormous fibroids, and over the last two years they really took off. From what I understand, the unchecked estrogen produced during perimenopause acts like gasoline on a flame for fibroids...mine grew very fast and very large.

I'm wondering if you have explored options other than a hyster, since your fibroids are relatively small? You might want to do some reading on our forum Hysterectomy Options and Alternatives, to get some input on other possible treatments. If you do decide on the surgery, we'll be here to help you prepare!

I don't think you'd have to worry about your fibroids increasing much between now and mid-summer...you might notice an increase, but probably not much of one.

Keep reading and posting, and we'll help you get through it!

How fast can fibroids grow?

Thanks Karen...
Not only do I have fibroids, but I have endometriosis with an endometrioma on my remaining ovary. The doctor says I may even have endo that has gone through the bowel wall (hence - the colonoscopy). That's another reason that a hysterectomy is probably necessary. Believe me though... I am doing a lot of thinking as I have to wait for my next appointment.

Thanks again,
Wendy

How fast can fibroids grow?

hello, just to say I have a fibroid 12 cms in size on the right hand size, got bigger quickly and is very painful as is pressing on my bladder and kidney. seems like a long waiting game with doctors who telling me I can live with it, yeah right they're not keeping tampax in business or peeing every 30 mins, keep an eye on them, and persist with the doctors, only you know what you are going through. hugs hope it all goes well for you bilbo
