Prolapse -Anyone experienced this?

Hello.... just wanted to say hi and introduce myself and tell my story.....I'm a 29 year old wife and mother of 2 beautiful girls. My family and I live in Clarksville, TN and I work as a Social Worker......
During my last pregnancy, while in labor, the nurse told me that I could not push just yet due to the doctor who was on call had not reached the hospital yet. So, she told me that she had to push my uterus back in with her fingers for about 10 to 15 minutes....then the doctor arrived and looked at me and said "I was at a birthday party"....I thought wow, sorry to have interrupted you well, after the birth of my daughter, I went home to take care of my 2nd blessing.
About 2 weeks later, I noticed that "something" was sticking out of me...I was unsure as to what it was and therefore waited and thought it would go back up.......I then checked again and called the doctor, just my luck it was the one who delievered my daughter (I had a female OB/GYN, this was a male) I told him that I was having some problems and that something was haning out of me....his reply "if it falls out, just push it back in and go to the ER"....I began to do some research on the internet and learned that I had a prolapsed uterus.....at my 6-week check up (Oct, 2005), I told the nurse that this was what I thought I had and she told me that it probably wasn't the case but that she would have the doctor look at it...after my exam, she surprisingly looked at me and said "I guess you were right"
The doctor looked at me and told me that I had to get "that weight off" me and this would improve my condition...I weighted 166lbs during this visit and lost 26lbs by April 2006... my condition stayed the same. I was told that I had 2 options, have a band placed around my uterus to hold it in place or have a hysterecomy.
My husband and I have arguments whenever we try to make a decision on what to do....we want another child but I don't like the idea of walking around with a "rubber band" holding my uterus in place....to top it all off, it is very, very painful when my husband and I are together sexually.....I am unsure as to what I should do.

I have heard of them being able to put everything back up with a sling. I am dealing with the same thing right now and my bladder and bowels and either areas have fallen down too. If you have a doctor say just push it back up their that is wrong!! See another doctor!! Dont have intercourse either because I was just told by my doctor that you could get an infection due to stuff getting caught in the folds and not being able to come out. <<ooops, please use the email button>>

Prolapse -Anyone experienced this?

I noticed my prolapse more after my second child (2004). It was literally "out" of my body immediately after birth (and I am 33 now). It did get a little better over time, as my doctor said it would. It was always a problem though. FWIW, I have a bladder and rectal prolapse. I have had a great sex life for the past three years and have never been told to not have sex by my Dr. Not sure if the above poster has something different or not. Good luck to you in finding help! My surgery is scheduled for the 23rd and I can't wait to get it all fixed!

Prolapse -Anyone experienced this?

Thank you all so much....I was concerned that the sex would have some impact on my condition but it was ok in one position now that's almost impossible. I have found a doctor and will call to schedule an appointment with her soon. My docotrs (the one who delievered my youngest, the NP, and my OB) all think its no big deal and I have been told that my husband should just deal with my condition and the fact that we will have a limited sex life....this is when I knew that I should seek another opinion.

Has anyone had the surgery and a tummy tuck at the same time?

Prolapse -Anyone experienced this?

I realized I had a prolapse problem when I was pregnant with my second child. I found blood and felt like something was falling out! Little did I know something was literally falling out. I was about 4 months pregnant and scared to death that it was my son falling out! I went into the ER and was not laughed at exactly but felt as though I was. The ER dr. believed me that something was wrong (the nurses looked at me like I was crazy). He had a pretty good idea that it was my cervix that was outside the vagina. I was put on restrictions and ordered to see my ob/gyn the following day. It turned out to be a prolapse and made pregnancy even more uncomfortable. After I delivered I felt about 100 times worse and was constantly pushing everything back up. I had to wait about 6 months before they would consider the hysterectomy. I had to loose my baby weight and make sure I was not postpartum before making such a big choice. I am only 28 so a lot of things had to be discussed. I lost all most all of the weight and to be honest it has only gotten worse. Sex...are you kidding...mine is so uncomfortable that I would hurt my husband real bad if he even offered it! I also have real bad endometreosis so a hysterectomy has always been something my gyn and I have talked about. The uterine prolapse also sort of runs in my family. My mom and her mom both had hysterectomies at young ages becasue of this so it was really the best option for me. I cannot wait to feel like a "normal" person again! Ask lots of questions and get as much research as you can before you make any decisions. What doesn't work for some might work for others! Best of Luck!

Wow....78daisies...that's some story. So are you going to go through with the surgery? That's what I'm afraid of, my husband and I only had intercourse in one position for the last year or so and now I don't think about sex due to it being so painful the last time......it's a shame that its 2007 and no other alternatives have come besides a "rubber band" and having a hysterectomy...I saw Dr. 90210 and there was a lady who had a viginal rejuvination.....the Dr. was saying something about tighting the muscles of the vigina.....is this possible to due with the muscles of the uterus? (just a little hope..that's all)

Prolapse -Anyone experienced this?

hey ycowan, yeah I am going through with it...I go in on this Thursday for the surgery and was told that in about 8 weeks I should start feeling like a healthy woman again. Prolapse can be a hard thing to deal with..for some the lovely "rubber band" works and for others like myself there is just no way and I would only be putting it off for a later date and be just as miserable. For me, the hysterectomy will be the best thing to do...but I have to agree that you would think there would be more alternatives. My DH and I are more then ready to have me feeling better for every reason out there!
