BM trouble

Hi vanilla...had SAH on Feb. 2nd, and i'm also still having bm trouble. I even bought some prunes, and couldn't eat them. I have been taking stool softener, and that has helped somewhat. I must admit, I took exlax but the pains before hand were incredible, and I wouldn't recommend it. What i've been doing, don't know if it will help, is the minute i feel a "little" urge, I go and sit with a book, and just start reading. I might just go a little at a time, but that seems to get me going. Coffee seems to help too. I also don't know what Prolapse means, so I can't help you there. But hang in there, and i'll keep you in my prayers!

BM trouble

Hi Vanilla and Pam,

Constipation and gas pains were the most difficult part of my recovery. Remember gas pain and constipation can be debilitating. The pain was so bad, when I ultimately had my first bm, that I only could see gray and was certain I was going to pass out. (I scared the living day lights out of my husband and boys)

Beginning the day with warm gingerale/prune juice, eating a high fiber diet (added additional fiber supplement), drinking lots of water, walking, walking and walking(10,000 very slow steps inside the house a day: walking was more comfortable than sitting or laying on the bed), heating pads ( one on the abdomen and the other on my back: high school physics want to get the gas to move out)gasx, stool softner and a laxative recommended by my dear doctor( called him frequently for moral support). Don't forget to take steps to avoid hemmorhoids (don't push, sitting on the toilet too long, use soft cleaning wipes, teabags @ site, and ice)

I am 4 weeks out now and feeling significantly better. Last Friday was the first day I felt significantly better and it was a euphoric feeling. Hope you have that feeling soon.

BM trouble

5th day out of surgery and feeling pretty good. I too was worried about bm and being constipated. The nurse called today to check on me :
and told me to take extra fiber (metamucil) to eat plenty of fruit, apples and apple juice seem to be the most helful and of course drink lots of water and walking helps also.

Prolapse means something -- bladder, vagina, uterus -- has fallen past where it should be.
Some women with bladder prolapse can actually feel the bladder in the vagina, and of course have urinary difficulties.
Prolapse can be caused by (among other things) delivery of babies, obesity, chronic constipation.

Have you tried stool softeners with extra H20 for your BMs? I was using the softeners for close to a month after surgery.
