Should I wait or go ahead? Prolapse issues
I was here for the first time in 2004. Contemplating a hyst. for a prolapsed uterus. Since then, I've been hospitalized twice, been on therapies, on and off BCP, and now on vicodin for the pain. The pain in the last month has become UNCONTROLABLE with anything but vicodin. My PreMensSymp. are 1-2 days of horrid pain, etc... then 3 days of heavy bleeding, and 1-2 days of the horrid pain again. gyno recommends we do the hyst. now. I waited to see if it would get better, it's only gotten worse. Now the prolapse is not just in the (a) but the (v) as well. am 26 and have just been told I will have to have a (h). Before it was going to be ovaries only- now all of it. I am very scared and nervous. My gyno advised me to do as much research as I could before making a for sure decision and I immediatly thought of the wonderful advise and caring friends I made at hystersisters. I sure hope you will welcome me back with open arms again.
Just needing some advise and help. Severe pain during my cycles and intercourse. I am going to be on here all the time I can already tell. I stay at home, and he works, so I pretty much have my days full of "nothing" hahaha I do clean some houses for a living-- so I do have a "job". LOL Looking forward to meeting you all, and I sure hope I can find someone who will be willing to help me with some ?s.
Love,

Should I wait or go ahead? Prolapse issues
Hi Brook, I have only just seen your thread.Sorry you are feeling bad with all this....my opinion would be to go ahead as your gyn suggests and get rid of the uterus, which seems to be trying to make its own way out anyway, and get rid of all that pain and discomfort.
I know what a prolapse is like as I have now had 3 repairs and there comes a time when surgery is a must.
Good luck with your decision, but I would say go for it!

Thank you, it's just scary to hear your doc say, do all the research you can, b/c i have heard it makes people absoultely CRAZY, where they lose their families/husbands b/c of the emotional rollercoaster. That scares me so bad!!

Yes, it is a bit scary, especially as you are so young as well. What bad luck! It is not an easy decision at all, which is probably why he wants you to really feel sure.
I think I would be guided by him.I know from personal experience that a uterus on its way down is going to be a problem if it stays. And you seem to be having so many other problems as well - which will also make life difficult for you if you don't do anything about them. That must be awful for you as it is.
I would assume that if you did go ahead with a hyster, you would use HRT. Once you get balanced on that, you should be able to avoid the roller coaster for the main part.
I hope someone who has had a similar experience in their twenties will come along soon and help..

just an opinion...
To Brook24...
While my issues were not the same as yours...I would like to throw in my two cents and story...
I am 51 years young...and while I never had any real issues with my period, in the last 3 years I started having spontaneous bleeding (dropping blood clots the size of the palm of my hand...and it was not time for my period). An emergency visit to the doctor revealed I had polyps..the doctor was unable to remove them in the office so I had an out-patient surgery. Over the next 3 years I had re-occuring issues though not as severe...long story short, in the end was having sporatic periods, had to wear depends pads for first 2-3 days of period and 6 days after every period was feeling the severe cramps as though it were time to start again. An ultra sound done 9 months prior revealed fibroids...but they were very small...no need to be concerned...fibroids are common...9 months later, ultra sound revealed an enlarged utereus and the fibroids had more than tripled in size...Time to do something about it. I knew I could not continue my life this way.
My point is this...and I know I have taken the long way to get here, but let's face it...when you get to the place where a hyster is suggested...(just my opinion) other options have usually been exhausted. This, for me, has been quite an experience...I had my utereus, both ovaries and fallopian tubes removed...and several fibroids. Am now working at getting hormonally balanced. While it may not be easy, if you decide to go with your doctors recommendation...you are young and deserve to be able to have a better life...one that is physically pain free and mentally stable and happy. There are lots of options when it comes to HRT and getting hormonally balanced... we are all different and it does take time. Kudos to you that you are researching both the surgery as well as all the other aspects....you are a very smart and well informed young woman. Please keep us all posted to your decision and outcome...as you are already aware...you are so very welcomed here...amoung lots and lots of friends.

Should I wait or go ahead? Prolapse issues
We have several Prolapse Resources that you might find helpful.
A hyst is a major surgery, not without its risks. The decision to have one should not be made lightly, especially at such a young age.
Having a second (or third or fourth) can help you decide what options are available for you or if surgery is right for you.
Taking time to research and learn more about your condition and the possibilities open for you is steps in the right direction.
Many best wishes to you as you decide what is right for you!
