migraines
Hi everyone,
Has anyone had more migraines since their Hysterectomy? I have had 4 bad migraines this week, I just can't think why, unless it's a hormonal imbalance. I did get 3 in one week when I went on birth control in the Fall to lessen the blood loss, but I came off them after 2 weeks because of all the migraine headaches. I have kept my ovaries so I am not takiny any hormones at all. Any ideas? Thanks.
Anne

Since my surgery Ive gotten a lot of the first stages of a migraine like the aura in the eyes and nausea but not the full blown migraine. I do believe they are related to hormones. I used to get them all the time before I was menopausal but they really eased up the past couple of years. Good luck, I know how miserable they can be. I started getting them when I was 14 (Wow, thats 34 years!)

Yup hormone imbalance for sure. Have Dr. check your levels. Once I got my hormones straightened out migraines went away. Good luck!

From one migrainer to another, s!!
After years and years and years and..... of headaches, we are finally figuring out that I am having a migraine whenever I have bad PMS and then it stops. So, it looks like mine are from a drop in estrogen. My neuro, GYN, and GP and I will keep working on the best solution for me.
So, do talk to your doctor. If you can keep a headache journal it can be very helpful to see if there are particular patterns for your headaches, pinpoint triggers (food, weather, hormones, lack of sleep, stress), etc. You might like using ReliefInsite’s online pain diary.
Do keep in mind that you are pretty early post op so your hormone levels could be flucuating right now as residual hormones leave your system and your ovaries start functioning fully again. You might ask your doctor for medications or if you can use Excederin Migraine your headaches for now, to see if they will go away on their own once you have recovered fully. (Please do not mix meds without speaking to your doctor.)
 in there and take care!

Thank you for your replies. I think I will go to my doctor tomorrow. 4 in a week is too many. I do get the aura every time, flashing lights in my eyes, spirals etc. I got my blood pressure taken today and it was 83/57. I have been out for 2 walks today so I don't know how it is that low. I am normally around 106/65.

Do mention your blood pressure to your doctor as it could be contributing to your headache as well.
I hope your doctor is able to try a med that will ease your headache so you will feel better! I agree, four in a week is way too many! Makes my head hurt thinking about it!
Let us know what you find out!
